    • Sinopec's (NYSE:SNP) attempt to spin off 30% of its retail gas station business has drawn interest from China Life (NYSE:LFC), the country's biggest insurance company, and gas supplier ENN Energy; they are the first investors to publicly announce their intention to invest in the SNP unit.
    • SNP is seeking to raise as much as 100B yuan ($16.3B) by selling part of its stake in the Sinopec Sales unit, which opoerates more than 30K fuel stations and 23K convenience stores in China.

    • China Life (NYSE:LFC) will become a general partner in private equity firm TPG Capital through the purchase of a $250M stake, Reuters reports.
    • The deal comes as TPG raises a new global fund worth approximately $10B.

    • Sunshine Oilsands (SUNYF), backed by Chinese investors including China Life (LFC), is abandoning a plan to issue a $325M bond after failing to attract buyers, Bloomberg reports.
    • Sunshine instead will pursue alternative financing led by Imperial Capital, Scotia Capital and Morgan Stanley, according to the report.
    • The company is targeting initial production of 5K bbl/day using steam to extract trapped reserves of bitumen at its West Ells project in the Athabasca oil sands region in Alberta.

    Shanghai falls 1%, with regulator plans to increase the supply of shares by resuming IPOs the excuse du jour. Most affected by the bump in supply would be small caps (HAO), and they declined 3.4%. China Life Insurance (LFC) fell 1.7% as its shares began trading again after Monday's suspension. FXI -0.8% premarket.

    China Life Insurance (LFC) shares remain halted following overnight comments to the press made by chairman Yang Mingsheng in which he said profits were set to improve this year. In a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company says Yang's comments were his own opinion and should not be taken as a forecast.

    China Life Insurance (LFC -2.3%) said last night 2012 profit likely declined 40% from a year ago. The news was inline with market expectations and shares rose 2.4% in Shanghai. Nevertheless, the ADRs are trading lower.

    China Life Insurance (LFC) reports a 46% decline in profit last year as the sliding Shanghai stock market forced losses on its holdings. The stock nevertheless rose 2.7% in Hong Kong last night as traders bet things can't get any worse for the company and are encouraged by plans to raise capital.

    AIG (AIG) is reportedly seeking pre-IPO investments from Chinese investors for AIA, and a consortium of Chinese companies including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (IDCBF.PK) and China Life Insurance (LFC) is expected to bid for a 30% stake worth around $10B.

    The slide in foreign direct investment drives Chinese stocks trading in the U.S. - including Chalco (ACH -7.3%), China Life Insurance (LFC -4.6%) and Yanzhou Coal Mining (YZC -6.3%) to their biggest decline as a group since March.

    Prudential PLC (PUK) confirms it has sold its Taiwan agency to China Life (LFC), after receiving regulatory approval this week. As part of the deal, PRU will take a 10% stake in LFC. The sale frees up £800M in cash for Prudential. PUK +4.4% premarket. LFC +2.5% in Shanghai.

    Bank of America (BAC) unloads 13.5B shares, or a nearly 6% stake, in China Construction Bank, giving it another $7.3B with which to weather the financial storm. Buyers include China Life Insurance Company (LFC). After the sale, BofA still owns about 11% of CCB's shares.
