Mel Karmazin does his first interview since Liberty Media (LINTA) gave Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) a $530M lifeline. In spite of all the doom and gloom, Karmazin says SIRI is now on the verge of living up to its early promise - of doing for radio what satellite TV did for television.

It's official. Liberty Media (LINTA) will loan Sirius (SIRI) $530M in return for a 40% stake in the company, saving Sirius from bankruptcy. Liberty -3.3% premarket.

Liberty Media (LINTA) is close to finalizing a deal with Sirius XM (SIRI), covering a significant amount of Sirius' debt in return for just under half the company. An announcement could come today before markets open.
