Nokia (NOK) sues Samsung, LG Displays (LPL), AU Optronics (AUO) and other LCD makers accusing them of price fixing, a suit that mirrors claims made by AT&T (T) last month. The conspiracy "artificially inflated the price of liquid crystal displays ultimately incorporated into LCD products purchased by Nokia, causing Nokia to pay higher prices," the complaint said.

The recent uptrend in LCD prices should continue through September and perhaps into Q4 after last week's earthquake in Japan disrupted production at one of Corning's (GLW) glass facilities. That's good news for LCD makers (LPL, AUO), who have suffered consecutive quarterly losses.

LG Display (LPL) snags a 5-year deal to supply liquid-crystal-display panels to Apple (AAPL), including a $500M advance. LPL already supplies about 70% of Apple's notebook and monitor screens.

LG Display (LPL) is up 20%. Morgan Stanley’s Keon Han says LPL has a "fortress-like balance sheet and growing cash balance to fund operations for several years without increasing leverage." His price target: 37K Korean won - 119% higher than yesterday's close.

Despite a soft U.S. economy and rising energy prices, North American TV shipments climbed 26% from Q1 - the strongest growth in at least four years. LCD TV shipments were up 52%. Biggest players: Samsung, SNE, LPL, GLW.
