- Monday, January 28, 10:22 AM The National Retail Federation forecasts 2013 retail sales will increase at a rate of 3.4%, lower than the 4.2% rise seen in 2012. Consumer attitudes will be influenced by higher payroll taxes and the ongoing fiscal cliff drama before improving in the second half of the year, according to the trade group. Retailers with strong online businesses should be able to ride out the moderate growth period adequately with online sales forecast to rise between 9% and 12% for the year. 9 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, January 3, 7:17 AM More on Limited Brands' (LTD) sales report : Comparable store sales at Bath & Body Works were up 7% during December, while Victoria's Secret saw flat growth. The company added 49 new stores during the month led by new La Senza Canada outlets. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Thursday, January 3, 7:05 AM Limited Brand (LTD) Dec. same-store sales:+3%. Total sales +4.2% to $1.95B. (PR) Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, January 2, 8:20 AM Cowen backs Limited Brand (LTD) as one of its Top Idea stocks. The company is also one of the picks of retail analyst Stacey Widlitz to push higher in 2013 based on its international growth potential and booming U.S. business. Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, December 26, 2012, 12:34 PM Many retail stocks are diving after MasterCard and ShopperTrak release data indicating holiday season sales were light. SHLD -3.6%. GPS -3%. NKE -2.9%. M -2.6%. GME -3.2%. AEO -3.6%. LTD -2.7%. ARO -3.4%. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, December 14, 2012, 10:21 AM Will this year's holiday shopping season be even more skewed toward online than forecasts? A report from U.K. retailer John Lewis showing a 46% surge in online sales suggests that across the pond the online trend is firmly entrenched. There's also the sneaking suspicion of some retail watchers that late online shopping could be a bigger factor with delivery turnaround times shortening. A few names to watch for online sales upside: AMZN, M, DKS, LTD, WSM, LULU. Comment! [Consumer]
- Monday, December 10, 2012, 4:25 PM Limited Brands (LTD) declares special dividend of $3.00/share. For shareholders of record Dec. 20. Payable Dec. 26. Ex-div date Dec. 18. Shares +2.3% AH. (PR) 1 Comment [Dividends, On the Move]
- Thursday, November 29, 2012, 1:29 PM Deloitte retail analyst Alison Paul doesn't think the Hurricane Sandy excuse being trotted out by major retailers is too far off base. After accounting for a significant pre-storm slowdown and major power outages in the Northeast, she thinks the numbers as a whole are actually quite good. In that same vein, other analysts point to layaway sales and online sales yet to ship as two categories that will help December compensate for the light November. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, November 29, 2012, 7:15 AM More on Limited Brand (LTD) same-store sales report: The retailer saw a 6% jump in its Bath & Body Works division pace broad gains. Store count fell 1.6% to 2,895 during the month compared to a year ago. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, November 29, 2012, 7:06 AM Limited Brand (LTD) Nov same-store sales:+5%. Total sales +5.7% to $922B. (PR) Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 8:43 AM Mall-based retailers are on watch after Express and American Eagle Outfitters delivered Q3 numbers and Q4 guidance solid enough to infuse confidence in traders. Aeropostale (ARO), +3.5% premarket, is an early riser in what could set up to be a retail rush. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, November 26, 2012, 1:08 PM Retail stocks (XRT -1.5%) are a mixed bag on the first day of trading following Black Friday. Though directionally, specialty sellers perceived as Black Friday winners such as Limited Brands (LTD +0.6%), Tilly's (TLYS +2.5%), Cache (CACH +2.8%), and Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF +0.4%) can be found, the overall trend is decliners outnumber gainers. One common theme for the day is a sluggish performance for department store stocks: Macy's (M) -3.6%, Nordstrom (JWN) -3.3%, Saks (SKS) -3.2%, J.C. Penney (JCP) -1.4%. Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, November 23, 2012, 6:51 AM Black Friday shopping will be the headline story in retail for the day, but the underlying plot will be the effect online channels have on the total sales hauls. Though various trade groups tag Black Friday weekend shopping to see a 3% to 4% rise this year, online shopping is expected to increase by closer to 15% heading into Cyber Monday. Online has also been where the winners and losers in the sector have been separated with major online forces such as Macy's (M) and Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) roaring to huge gains - while the likes of J.C. Penney (JCP) and Big Lots (BIG) limp along. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Friday, November 16, 2012, 10:30 AM Nomura sees Limited Brands' (LTD +0.6%) relatively skimpy amount of share repurchases in Q3 as a signal the retailer is stockpiling for another special cash dividend. Last year, the company rewarded investors with a $2 per share dividend late in the year. Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 4:46 PM Limited Brands (LTD) declares $0.25/share quarterly dividend, in line with previous. Forward yield 2.15%. For shareholders of record Nov. 26. Payable Dec. 10. Ex-div Nov. 21. (PR) Comment! [Dividends]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 4:37 PM Limited Brands (LTD): Q3 EPS of $0.26 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $2.05B in-line. Shares -1.1% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
