- Saturday, August 18, 2012, 9:45 AM Yoga wars: Lululemon (LULU) takes to the courtroom to defend its market share, accusing PVH's Calvin Klein brand and G-III Apparel Group (GIII) of infringing on design patents. That's not the only jarring competition Lululemon is seeing with retail heavyweights Gap, Under Armour, and Nike stepping up their fitness/athletic apparel lines in the space. No question LULU is a darling of the shorts, but on the bull side it still has that "it" factor with shoppers and runaway e-commerce sales. As for that light outlook for FQ2, the firm tends to sandbag guidance - beating its own estimates by an average of 30%. Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, August 17, 2012, 10:01 AM Shares of Lululemon (LULU +1.4%) poke out an early gain. The action on LULU is dominated by options activity, according to Schaeffer's Investment Research. At the moment, short-term speculators are extremely put-heavy. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 1:26 PM A number of beat-up momentum stocks run hot after their summer of discontent, with investors apparently setting their tolerance for risk a bit higher without any clear cut impetus. Favored momo names Chipotle (CMG +3.9%), Tesla Motors (TSLA +7.5%), Lululemon (LULU +3.9%), Deckers (DECK +6.2%), and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR +5.7%) are all showing outsized gains. 4 Comments [On the Move, Consumer]
- Tuesday, July 31, 2012, 9:07 AM High-end retail stocks may have a hard time getting out of the way of the blowback from Coach's weak Q2 sales report. Premarket decliners: RL -2.2%, TIF -3.8%, SIG -0.2%, FOSL -2.5%, LULU -1.6%. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, July 11, 2012, 10:25 AM Lululemon (LULU -1.2%) trades lower after an appearance by the stock on Mad Money's lightning round fails to invigorate buyers. The big picture on LULU is that continues to be tagged as a "momo" stock with risk-off implications, which Cramer says gives investors a chance to profit with deep in the money calls 6 months out. 2 Comments [Consumer, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 2:19 PM Shares of Lululemon (LULU -7.1%) stay depressed with many factors in play. Retail stocks are getting slapped down across the board off concerns that the Supreme Court opinion could increase costs, while momo names in particular are getting hit hard. To top it off, rumors of an Einhorn short on the name haven't been ground out yet - even with UBS out with a spirited defense. Comment! [On the Move, Consumer]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 12:20 PM The momo knife is out in full force today in the retail sector, with favored names such as Chipotle (CMG -4.1%), Lululemon (LULU -7.7%), Under Armour (UA -2.9%), and Monster Beverage (MNST -5.6%) all getting whacked lower on heavy volume. 2 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 10:48 AM Shares of Lululemon (LULU -6.4%) spike lower off a rumor floating around that David Einhorn has taken a short position. Comment! [On the Move, Consumer]
- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 3:37 PM The broad swipe by investors against high-end retailer stocks - kickstarted by Citi's downgrade on select names - sweeps Tiffany (TIF -3.4%), Lululemon (LULU -2.9%), Fossil (FOSL -4.4%), and Coach (COH -0.9%) into negative territory. Over the last couple of years, the divergence between luxury stocks and discounting names has never been wider, with the two groups moving in almost opposite directions depending upon the fear factor on the global economy. On watch: DLTR, DG, ROST, TJX. Comment! [Consumer, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, June 8, 2012, 10:36 AM UBS reiterates a Buy rating on Lululemon (LULU -0.4%), while trimming its price target to $86 from $91. Analyst Roxanne Meyer says the company is one step ahead of rivals with its ability to focus on innovation. Though valuations are high and the stock gets tagged as a momo favorite, so far Lululemon still has the brand cachet that other retailers breaking into the yoga market have failed to capture. 3 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, June 7, 2012, 12:57 PM Analysts with William Blair are out with a defense of Lululemon (LULU -4.4%) after its Q2 guidance cut, as they buy into the theory that Lululemon's management likes to go conservative with its outlook. On the LULU earnings conference call (webcast), the theme from management was that new products will be developed over the next two quarters and add to results in Q4. 1 Comment [Consumer]

Premarket gainers: DGIT +5%. DANG +5%. RIO +5%.
Losers: MOH -25%. MW -19%. NAV -16%. CMVT -10%. PLL -8%. LULU -8%. ABR -6%. Comment! [On the Move] - Thursday, June 7, 2012, 7:51 AM Speculation that Lululemon (LULU) sandbagged its guidance in order to set up a major earnings beat down the road is getting bandied about (I, II). If the chatter is true that the company came in light intentionally, it's a game that may give LULU investors a few gray hairs with shares down 12.2% premarket. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, June 7, 2012, 7:26 AM More on Lululemon's (LULU) FQ1: Comparable-store sales rose 25% Y/Y. Direct to consumer revenue increased 179% to $38.4M. SG&A expenses as a percentage of revenue fell to 29.4%, from 31% a year ago. Sees Q2 EPS of $0.28-$0.30 vs. $0.33 and FY12 EPS of $1.55-$1.60 vs. $1.63 consensus. Shares -13.1% premarket.
