15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
I guess I am dumb like you. I think seeing what some pretty bright people are buying and selling is a pretty good place to get ideas to do my own research. It also provides a good benchmark to compare to my own portfolio. You should do some further research on whether Buffett sold COP. I saw another post that he, in fact, got an expemption from the SEC to not report is position in that stock. Therefore, it simply droppped from the list and not sold. Given that COP is pretty cheap compared to the rest and that he and Gates were up in Canada looking at oil sands, it seems unlikely that he just punched out of this position in one quarter Reply
Support for Freddie - Fast Money Recap (8/20/08) [view article]
FRE FNM is the most manipulated story ever told!FRE and FNM have been technically insolvent for years. Gross is now all the sudden piping up? and Greenspan (who now works for PIMCO) also pushing for Nationalization!?!
They are simply Seizing an opportunity to talk PIMCO's book. Gross push's the public opinion to panic, FRE and FNM get nationalized and PIMCO makes BILLIONS on a massive spread tightening.
Anyone out there do an honest days work?
Meanwhile the financials get pummeled and sentiment goes south.

I don't see much "value" in this kind of blanket value listing. Would prefer something more akin to e-valu-ating individual stocks, industries, etc., rather than, "Wither the hedge herd, mate?". Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
I would like to know how you define "value" in the context that you are using it. I see one of the funds you mention has a position in First Solar. Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]

Five Great Quality Companies: Are They Too Expensive? [view article]
SEC -- I must have been a bit drunk.....lolMy only excuse is that July 31st (when I wrote that) was my birthday, and I might have had one too many. I actually don't even remember writing anything!
I have a Masters in Criminology, actually, although I will be sure not to show my Prof that statement!
For the record, I must have been trying to say, "I used ain't as a way of emphasizing my point"....
I think I am going to apply for Remedial English now..... Reply

Larry you are one funny guy. You admit 'ain't' is ungrammaticalwhile defending yourself with not only an ungrammatical but also a totally nonsensical phrase. '...As a way as a form of...'
has no meaning semantically or syntactically. What was your masters in? Reply

edward lord clarendon.hedge fund 13f filings with the SEC only report LONG holdings. so if they added, they added to their long. if they reduced, they sold off some of their long. they are not required to report short positions.
kind of common knowledge regardless though, that when funds in general talk about "holdings" they are referring to their longs. Reply

Having only discovered your site recently I must say I am more impressed with each new article such as Hedge Funds portfolio activity. Also noticing Tremblant's portfolio added to anad position tells me they feel as bullish as I on them but expect perhaps a sprd investment soon at these prices for an obvious solid long term play. I like your post- and it was a great marketing tool to be able to include 50+ symbols- great syndication idea.Although I am very pessimistic of 'anonymous' authors- I must say I took a look at your blog and like it very much.
Yes- it is great to follow what the funds are investing in- the increase in Gafisa was interesting -but not suprised by tremblant or atticus taking big V stakes- and look like they picked up some MA on the correction.
Interesting posts- and great link setup.......

I agree with the few DFS fans. It's easy to jump on the V/MA/AXP bandwagon because they have already established solid merchant acceptance and growth. You have to understand that DFS has always been owned by another company so their hands have always been some what tied.Their first attempt with the Goldfish Card in the UK failed but like any good business does, they learn from their mistakes. DFS bought Diner's Club who has a network in over 180 countries. Soon, and DFS cardmember can use their card in over 180 countries. Global Merchant acceptance issue solved. In the U.S., acceptance is over 4.5 million merchants and they recently partnered with many acqusition companies, including the top 10, and are adding thousands of merchants a month(this has been happening the last several months).
Was anyone else aware that out of the top 100 retailers in America, DFS is accepted at 98? That is more than V/MA/or AXP believe it or not. Now that DFS is an independent company, they can make their own decisions and be able to focus on their own growhth 100% So yes, be happy to own DFS shares for the long term of course! Reply
