4 Reasons Why the Visa IPO Excites [view article]
What is it that MA or Visa actually own that makes them irreplaceable? Do they own the little card readers that transmit the card information to the banks? Do they provide the call centers to handle the call traffic when something goes wrong? If they're just earning a fee off each transaction, what makes them mandatory in the grand scheme of things? Great article. Clearly, the investment bankers misjudged the valuation investors were willings to pay for Mastercard...they won't do that this time around so we do not expect great performance for public shareholders who buy at the opening. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts regarding this much anticipated IPO in this poor market environment. We agree with many of the previous comments, no need to rush into this one. 4 Reasons Why the Visa IPO Excites [view article]
Just wondering if VISA is flooding the market with overpriced shares because of how well MA has done. I love the story, the internet is all credit card all day, and just charging a fee instead of loaning cash is nice from a cost standpoint. On the other side of the coin, how hard can it be to cut out a middle man charging a fee for little added value? Reply4 Reasons Why the Visa IPO Excites [view article]
Visa is selling half of its shares for 14 to 18 billion.MA has a mkt cap of 25.11B in todays price..
Visa is supposedly. 1.5 times bigger than MA.. so now , to compare apples to apples, if visa open at 40 . and its mkt is 17billion and that is half of the Cos, is it comparable to MA.. ie. 34 billion and 25 bill for MA
by the way. the number I got for MA 25 billion is from the yahoo finanace website. is that the total mkt cap ?

With the prior example of Master Card's IPO, and it's outperformance to date, the VISA will not be so casually taken, and participating in the IPO (as I plan to do) is a good entry point. Reply4 Reasons Why the Visa IPO Excites [view article]

China's Virtual, e-Commerce Currency [view article]
What if through transactions with virtual money real money flows from one country to another country without being taxed or without any comission? That could happen if potential users put their money in one's real account and then get a number of virtual coins with a known and fixed value in real currencies, probably better than that found in real economy, because there will be no commision in the exchange system or any taxes.
Are you interested in the idea?

Profit from Visa - the Biggest IPO in U.S. History [view article]
This was a pretty well-written article compared to a lot of other ones I've seen. I don't know why there seems to be a shortage of good coverage on the Visa IPO. A lot of the articles found here on SeekingAlpha were of much lower quality than I'm used to.My feelings on the Visa IPO opportunity is similar to Retrace's. I want to sit on the sidelines for a couple weeks and watch what happens. I expect it'll pop-up 10-20%, then consolidate, before moving upward again. Reply

I for one am interested in Visa and have been awaiting it's debut. There financial filings can be found on the Hoovers site.
Joseph Saunders was named executive chairman to oversee its transition to a public company. Saunders has a great track record, he headed the turnaround of card portfolios at the former FleetBoston Financial and Providian, and is/has left his post as president of credit-card services at WaMu.
I held Providian stock from the low two's and watched intently as Sauders turn the company that many had said would/could not survive into a 20.00 dollar stock at which time it was sold at near that pps. He knows the card business.
But with that being said there are certainly more important factors to consider, as both calvino and gokou3 eluded to.
One of the big concerns I have is the timing of the IPO with the financial markets as they are.
I have followed and bought several IPO's and many retrace their initial rise in pps within the first few weeks, before resuming upward movement "if" they are going to.
Therefore, at least for me there is time to see what the overall market sentiment is before making a decision.
Master card initially hit the street at 40+- and went to 48+ in nine days, but a month after the initial it could be bought for 43+.
Google also did similar, hitting the street around 100, rising to 108+- than retracing and thirteen days after the initial it could be bought for 99+-.
IMO, patience gives one time to see how the street accepts an IPO, and hey if you miss it there will always be more.
Don't let emotions cloud judgment, were not here to love them, just to make money from them.
