- Tuesday, May 28, 2:34 PM Shares in Mako Surgical (MAKO +11.3%) move up today on heavy volume, pushing up towards the top of a channel its's traded in for most of this year after Wells Fargo ups their rating to Outperform from Market Perform. Wells thinks that MAKO’s new hip software for its RIO robot addresses concerns that have limited its adoption since launching in September 2011. The firm expects hip procedure growth, which represents a significantly large percentage of its projected revenue stream, should accelerate following the release of the software around July. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 28, 9:14 AM Premarket gainers: CSIQ +25%. PIP +21%. ROYL +17%. BGMD +11%. BLDP +11%. VRX +11%. SIGA +8%. TSL +8%. MAKO +8%. YGE +8%. CPST +8%. STSI +8%. HSOL +7%. ALU +7%. LDK +7%. JASO +7%. TIF +6%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Tuesday, April 9, 2:48 PM Mako Surgical (MAKO +4%) gains on an upgrade to Neutral by Mizuho Securities, raising it's price target from $12 to $14. Mizuho says that after being nearly halved over the past seven months due to growth concerns, consensus 2013 estimates are achievable. The company still has plenty of room for growth in uni-knees, the firm notes, even when you account for new robotics competitors. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]

Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 26, 5:02 PM More on Mako Surgical (MAKO): Q4 misses across the board on an 8% decline in total sales Y/Y. For FY13, the company anticipates selling 45 to 48 RIO systems, versus a total of 45 RIO systems sold worldwide in 2012, and estimates its customers will perform 13,500 to 14,500 MAKOplasty procedures, versus 10,204 procedures performed in 2012. After-hours top losers: COF -8%. TSRX -6%. PATH -5%. INTC -4%. MAKO -3%. Comment! [On the Move] - Monday, January 7, 9:59 AM MAKO Surgical (MAKO) -5.8% but recovering from earlier lows after saying that it sold 15 of its Rio surgical systems in Q4 and 45 in 2012, taking the total installed based to 156. The number of orthopedic MAKOplasty procedures performed +29% Y/Y to 2,904 in Q4. Sells 11 MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) applications, of which three were sold to existing customers. THA procedures performed +31% Q/Q. (PR) 1 Comment [On the Move, Healthcare]
- Monday, December 10, 2012, 2:49 PM Mako Surgical (MAKO -4.1%) falls after competitor Blue Belt Technologies received clearance from the FDA to market its NavioPFS orthopedic surgical system for partial knee replacement. MAKO markets its own device, called the RIO robotic system, which, although higher priced, offers some advantages in terms of implant availability, ease of use and broader applications in hips. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 12:37 PM Shares of Mako Surgical (MAKO -1.2%) slip due to a post late yesterday on the FDA's website saying that MAKO had recalled its RIO System software, version 2.4 and is implementing software version 2.5 to address a functional issue with the existing version. Piper Jaffray says the recall had been previously disclosed, the issue looks minor and it shouldn't impact Q4 volumes. The firm reiterates an Overweight on the stock with a $28 price target. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 11:38 AM Mako Surgical (MAKO +3.5%) is higher today after pricing its previously announced 3.042M share secondary offering at $13.15 per share, just a slight discount to its Tuesday close. The company anticipates net proceeds from the sale to be approximately $37M. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]

[On the Move] - Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 4:35 PM More on MAKO Surgical (MAKO): Q3 beats consensus on both EPS and revenue, but the company lowers its guidance for MAKOplasty procedures in Q4, based on the total procedures performed in the first three quarters of FY12 and the unknown net effect of Hurricane Sandy. It now expects to perform between 10,200 to 10,600 procedures, down from prior guidance of 11K to 12K. FY12 annual guidance of 42 - 48 expected RIO system sales remains unchanged. Shares -1.4% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 4:15 PM Mako Surgical (MAKO): Q3 EPS loss of -$0.15 beats by $0.01. Revenue of $29M (+41% Y/Y) beats by $2M. Shares -1.8% AH. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 11:27 AM Mako Surgical (MAKO -1.3%) drifts lower after being initiated with a Market Perform at Wells Fargo, but with lackluster commentary and a less than impressive $15 - $17 price target range. The firm says there's reason for optimism over the long term in the name, but over the near term the ramp up of its new hip application product is likely to be slower than expected. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 11:31 AM Shares of MAKO Surgical (MAKO +8.8%) trade up on the back of strong sales results from British supplier Corin Group (CNGHF.PK) overnight. Corin says H1 sales rose 15% to £25.0m, an increase of 13% on a constant currency basis, due in large part to heavy sales to MAKO. Traders are also speculating that a short squeeze might be underway as well, considering the company’s current trading float is over 30% short. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]

John Motyka: jhogg; MAKO won recent patent infringement litigation. Question seems to be how many new RIO systems they can sell. $ tight for cap invests.

FortSumter: John - I do not. From what I understand MAKO is mainly in the west? Is there anybody else besides ISRG that does what they do? -
John Motyka: Sumter: Some big boys working on prototypes, but ISRG first to market. The $ for these systems is in hardware and commissions per procedure.
