McKesson CEO (MCK) John Hammergren would have received a whopping $159M in pension benefits had he voluntarily retired on March 31, the WSJ calculates. That's far and away the largest pension for a current executive at a public company and probably the largest in U.S. history. Hammergren's pension has been boosted by several unusual factors, including credit for extra years of service and for pay that he didn't receive. The company is also waiving a penalty for early retirement.

Piper Jaffray analyst Sean Wieland says athenahealth (ATHN -0.8%) could see some significant upside following Tenet's (NYSE: THC) deal to acquire Vanguard Health (VHS). Wieland postulates that ATHN could get an added $10M a year in added sales if VHS picks the company as an an ambulatory platform provider, calling its product a "better, more integrated" offering than McKesson's (MCK).

Omnicare's (OCR) recent adoption of a Change in Control Plan (8-K) has Credit Suisse thinking the company could be a takeout candidate as "such action has signaled potential outside interest" in the past. While the move is "probably a routine corporate governance action," improved Long-Term Care performance and swift Specialty growth make the company a decent buyout candidate for the likes of McKesson (MCK) and Cardinal Health (CAH), analyst Glen Santangelo says.

McKesson (MCK +6%) racks up a gain today despite posting lackluster Q1 results yesterday, missing on both EPS and revenue as net earnings fell 50% Y/Y due to declining revenue and higher operating expenses. The caveat comes out of its FY14 guidance, which - on the surface at least - was largely in-line with Street estimates. However, according to Credit Suisse, buy-side analysts appear to have priced in expectations $0.10 - $0.15 lower than the sell-side consensus, thereby giving the juice for today's upside move.

Barron's is out with its list of the 500 financially strongest companies as ranked after a rigorous cash and sales analysis. A quick filter on the list shows a good chunk of the names trade with a single-digit price to earnings ratio including Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT). Despite all the buzz about booming auto sales in the U.S. and China, concerns about growth for Goodyear's products in other regions of the globe have lowered expectations. But with auto sale estimates for full-year being taken higher, Goodyear could see enough consistent revenue growth to justify a higher trading multiple. (Top 25: AAPL, WCC, WDC, DVA, CHRW, QCOM, JOY, V, STX, MRC, MA, CVI, COF, SYMC, MCK, WCG, ETN, BRCM, TMO, CI, CBI, NOV, WNR, HFC, DK)

More on McKesson (MCK): FQ3 misses on the bottom line while beating total sales estimates, driven by higher medical-surgical distribution and services revenues. For FY13, EPS estimates are guided lower, now expected to be between $7.15 - 7.35 to $7.10 - 7.30 per share. Street estimates are for an EPS of $7.30. The company also says it's board has authorized an additional $500M to its stock buyback program. Shares -2.6% AH.
