    Early strength in Molycorp (MCP +2.2%) is attributed to a takeover story making the rounds highlighting the shares' recent fall below NAV which is turning the high-potential firm into a prime takeover target. Even after rebounding from a record low in November, MCP still trades at a 19% discount to their book value.

    Molycorp (MCP) +7.3% premarket, as the company’s low valuation and the chance to lock in rare-earth resources could make it a potential takeover target, Bloomberg reports. Analysts say manufacturers from Nissan (NSANY.OB) to Siemens (SI) could be interested, and shares could fetch $15 in a takeover.

    Molycorp (MCP) pops on a Bloomberg report seeing the company as a takeover play, and suggesting BHP and Rio Tinto (RIO) as possible buyers. One hedge fund manager (long the stock?) suggests the firm could fetch $60/share against the Friday close of $33.83. Shares +3% premarket.

    Stifel Nicolaus views Molycorp's (MCP +11.6%) acquisition of Neo Material Technologies (NEMFF.PK) as a positive vertical integration move for the rare metal producer. The firm expects the deal to be accretive in 2012 but it maintains a Hold rating.

    Molycorp (MCP) agrees to acquire Canada's Neo Material Technologies (NEMFF.PK) in a ~C$1.3B cash and stock deal that will give MCP access to Neo's rare earth processing capabilities and patents. MCP +2.5% AH.

    Molycorp (MCP) has been hurt by the recent crash in rare earth metal prices, but thinks the crash could boost its competitive standing, by making it harder for would-be competitors to obtain funding. The company adds it's "looking to acquire downstream companies that can process rare-earth oxides and produce magnets."
