- Monday, March 11, 4:18 AM Medicines Co.'s (MDCO) blood thinner Cangrelor was 22% better at cutting heart risks following a stent procedure than the now generic clopidogrel (Plavix) in a wide-ranging trial. It's a bit of comeback for Cangrelor, which Medicines thought it would shelve in 2009 after disappointing earlier trials. However, follow-up studies showed it was better than Plavix. Medicines now plans to file for FDA approval for Cangrelor, which could generate estimated sales of $400M by 2019. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare]

- Monday, February 11, 11:00 AM Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (ALNY -3.4%) dips after MLV cut the shares to Hold from Buy. The firm says it prefers to take a cautious stance ahead of pending details of disease-modifying data from its lead partnered programs. One such program is its strategic alliance with The Medicines Co. (MDCO -3%) to develop ALN-PCS, an RNAi therapeutic program for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, February 8, 3:14 PM The Medicines Company (MDCO +0.6%) says its global license and two-year collaboration with Bristol-Myers (BMY +1.2%) for Recothrom, a recombinant thrombin approved by the FDA as a topical hemostat to control non-arterial bleeding during surgical procedures, has become effective. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, February 4, 12:49 PM The Medicines Company (MDCO -1.5%) says it's formed an exclusive global alliance with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (ALNY -2.6%) for the development and commercialization of ALNY's ALN-PCS RNAi therapeutic program for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. The deal could net ALNY $205M plus double-digit royalties if the collaboration is successful, and an early-stage trial has already showed success. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Monday, February 4, 8:22 AM The Medicines Company (MDCO) is licensing the rights to cholesterol-lowering drug ALN-PCS from Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (ALNY), with Medicines paying $25M up front, as much as $180M in milestones, and then royalties. The treatment inhibits a protein called PCSK9 and is seen as an alternative to statins such as Lipitor. However, ALN-PCS is only in Phase I trials. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Tuesday, January 8, 11:48 AM Medicines Co. (MDCO +10%) pushes through a 6-year high today as the stock surges after the drug maker announces positive Phase 3 trial results of its antiplatelet drug Cangrelor. - Thursday, December 20, 2012, 3:31 PM Leerink ups its price target for The Medicines Co. (MDCO +7.1%) to $34 from $30 on the back of the drug developer's previously announced positive results for the Phase III trial of oritavancin. The firm now sees it as a takeout candidate and reiterates an Outperform. Separately, JPMorgan also ups the shares to Overweight. Comment! [On the Move, Healthcare]
- Thursday, December 20, 2012, 8:44 AM Medicines Co's (MDCO) oritavancin drug for treating bacterial skin infections met the main goal of a Phase III trial by preventing the spread of the infection and without causing a fever. The study shows that one dose of oritavancin can cure infections, including MRSA, which is a particular problem in hospitals; oritavancin is also as effective as multiple days of infusions of the antibiotic vancomycin. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare]
