Mondelez International (MDLZ) says it will invest at least $200M to boost the capabilities of small-scale coffee farmers and make them more sustainable. The company appears to be trying to get an edge on rivals to tap into a consumer trend of heightened awareness on the sourcing of coffee products.

Twenty two analysts have stepped to the plate to take a crack at Mondelez International (MDLZ +0.9%) in the scant two weeks since the stock spun off from Kraft with the vibe on the Street decidedly bullish. A total of 17 Buy/Overweight ratings are in the books along with five Hold ratings, while zip come in at Sell/Underweight. The thesis on the stock is pretty simple. If an investor firmly believe brands such as Oreo, Cadbury, Ritz, and Chips Ahoy can be localized and sold throughout the world, then the sky is the limit.

Coffee wars: While Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR +1.2%) maintains a healthy market share advantage in the U.S. at the moment and Nestle (NSRGY.PK) is a force to be reckoned with in Europe, the battle for China is wide open. Though the consumption rate in the tea-drinking nation is still low, the prospect for lush growth is too enticing for Starbucks (SBUX +0.1%), Nestle, and new entrant Mondelez International (MDLZ) to ignore. The big question still to be answered is if Chinese consumers will skip drinking filtered coffee to jump right into the single-serve and store-bought varieties.

Kraft Foods Europe, which is now part of Mondelez International (MDLZ -0.4%), has agreed to buy the Vitasnella snack business in Italy from Danone (DANOY.PK +1.4%) for an undisclosed sum. DANOY.PK will keep Vitasnella's yogurt and businesses, allowing Kraft to focus on a booming snack sector that is growing faster than other consumer segments as people with a busy lifestyle snap up low-value food to eat on the go.

Mondelez (MDLZ) CEO Irene Rosenfeld tips off on CNBC that the company is more than likely to make acquisitions in developing nations. Her vision is taking the company's snacking platform from market to market, boosted by "tack-on" buys. The early analyst take on the Kraft spinoff is that Mondelez is the high-growth, risk-on trade while grocery player Kraft Foods Group (KRFT) looks like the stable dividend player.

The analyst sees KRFT delivering revenue and profit above expectations, while predicting a future hike in the company's already lush $2.00-a-share dividend.

Kraft Foods (KFT) heads into its last trading day as a Dow component before its spinoff with a full head of steam. Despite earnings guidance for 2013 that came in lower than expectations, the long-term prospects for a highly-focused Mondelez International (MDLZ) and Kraft Food Group (KRFT) looks juicy to a wide range of analysts believing the separation will unlock untapped value.

Forget exits, Jeff Gundlach tells CNBC, it's more likely the Fed buys all Treasury bonds in existence than it moves to ever sell them. "Longer term, you want to be in 'real business' assets, with the ability to preserve purchasing power," he says, singling out Kraft (KFT) and Campbell Soup (CPB). (previous)
