MES Description

The Gulf States Index ETF seeks to replicate as closely as possible, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Dow Jones GCC Titans 40 IndexSM. The Index provides exposure to publicly traded companies that are headquartered in countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) or that generate the majority of their revenues in these countries. As such, the Fund is subject to the risks of investing in this region.

Monday, April 22, 2:26 PM Van Eck plans to swap out the underlying indexes for the Market Vectors Africa ETF (AFK) and the Market Vectors Gulf States ETF (MES) for ones of its own creation. Monday, November 28, 2011, 12:46 PM While competitors are cutting back, Goldman Sachs (GS) is broadening its MENA equity research, initiating coverage on 80 new stocks, bringing the total to 121. Goldman's key theme is rising oil prices and the bank is looking at not only resource firms, but other beneficiaries like infrastructure and consumer spending. Comment! [Global & FX]

Crunching data from the IMF, the group finds (.pdf) the Arab Spring cost the region more than $50B in short-term losses with an economic tally that doesn't account for losses to human life, infrastructure, or investment losses.
