- Monday, May 20, 12:50 PM JP Morgan puts out a bullish note on M/I Homes (MHO -0.3%) today, initiating the shares with an Overweight and a $34 price target. The firm says the stock has had an impressive performance in 2012, up 176% versus the universe average of 94%, but has lagged its peers YTD, up only 2% the universe average of 24%. JP thinks that near industry leading order growth of 41% and 33% in 2013 and 2014, respectively, combined with strong operating margin expansion, should give the shares some upside over the near term. After-hours top losers: NGL -4%. MHO -3%. KRO -3%. ERII -2%. TVIX -2%. Comment! [On the Move] - Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 6:25 PM Home builders (XHB +1.8%) ranked among today's top gainers on surging single-family housing starts and existing home sales rising at the highest pace since the first-time homebuyer tax credit artificially sparked sales in mid-2010. But hold the champagne; a Harvard analyst still sees single-family starts rising only to ~1M, "not even half-way back to where we should be in terms of long-term trends." Comment! [Consumer, U.S. Economy]
- Thursday, September 6, 2012, 12:01 PM M/I Homes (MHO +4.4%) pops after pricing its previously announced offering of 2.2M common shares at $17.63, an even match to Wednesday's closing price. Comment! [On the Move]
- Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 2:31 PM M/I Homes (MHO -8.4%) slips after announcing a concurrent offering of 2.2M common shares and $50M in convertible senior subordinated notes due 2017. The home builder says it plans to use proceeds for land acquisitions, development, home construction, capital expenditures, increasing its working capital and repayment of indebtedness, among other things. The company has about 18.2 million shares outstanding as of July 30. Comment! [On the Move]
- Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 11:01 AM Home builders add to early gains and rebound from a selloff yesterday following the decent ISM service sector print. Lennar (LEN) +4.4%, PluteGroup (PHM) +3.9%, D.R. Horton (DHI) +3.4%, M/I Homs (MHO) +4.7%, and the ITB sector ETF +2.33%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Monday, May 14, 2012, 1:45 PM Guggenheim raises its ratings on a slew of homebuilders to Buy today, saying the sharp decrease in existing home inventories has reduced exisiting home competition to a level supportive of order growth: Lennar (LEN +0.7%), Pulte (PHM -1.1%), Ryland (RYL -0.9%), Toll Brothers (TOL -0.6%), M/I Homes (MHO +1.2%). 1 Comment [On the Move]
- Thursday, April 26, 2012, 10:47 AM M/I Homes (MHO): Q1 EPS of -$0.17 beats by $0.23. Revenue of $131M (+18.6% Y/Y) beats by $9M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]
- Wednesday, February 22, 2012, 3:41 PM Among homebuilder shares, Toll Brothers' (TOL -4.9%) unexpected FQ1 loss outweighs January's rise in U.S. existing home sales: BZH -5.5%, KBH -4.5%, MHO -5.9%, MTH -5.5%, RYL -4.4%. Shares slide despite optimistic remarks from TOL CEO Doug Yearley that "in general the market feels healthier than it did one year ago." Comment! [U.S. Economy, On the Move]
-
Thursday, February 2, 2012, 8:34 AM
M/I Homes (MHO): Q4 EPS of -$0.16 may not be comparable to consensus of $0.02. Revenue of $176.8M (+7.2% Y/Y) beats by $1M. (PR)
Comment! [Earnings] - Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 1:00 PM "Nothing says 'capitulation' like Calpers dumping sites at $35K a pop," tweets Jeff Matthews of the pension giant unloading thousands of properties on which it probably paid an average price in the $75K-$150K range. The fund now looks to real estate for stability and an inflation hedge, rather than for high yields. (see also) 2 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, January 11, 2012, 2:10 PM A big jump in new orders booked by Lennar (LEN +7.1%) lifts up shares of the company - as well as helping ring in bold double-digit gains for peers. Ticonderoga Securities analyst Stephen East explains all the fuss: "Orders are the crown jewel in this release, up 20% to 3,027, ahead of any Street estimate we are aware of." Homebuilder advancers: KBH +14.1%, MHO +12.1%, HOV +15.8%, BZH +6%. 2 Comments [On the Move]
