Here's a surprise: Mellanox (MLNX -0.1%) is near breakeven after guiding for Q1 revenue about 40% below consensus. The fact shares (initially down 25% AH) had already been more than halved since September is undoubtedly a big reason why. Management noted on the earnings call one of its OEM customers saw a $30M inventory buildup that will be burned through in Q1, and expects growth to resume in Q2 and continue through 2013. Mellanox (MLNX) warns it expects Q4 revenue of $119M-$121M, well below prior guidance of $145M-$150M and a consensus of $148.3M. The company blames weaker demand, macro issues, and a "technical issue" related to cables for its 56 Gb/s InfiniBand hardware that caused $20M in orders to be delayed; Mellanox claims the cabling issue is fixed. Shares are halted, expect a big move lower. (institutional selling: I, II)

Both companies had fallen sharply due to weak enterprise server demand. Emulex guided for FQ2 revenue of $120M-$124M and EPS of $0.19-$0.21, largely below a consensus of $129.1M and $0.21. QLogic guided for FQ3 revenue of $112M-$118M and EPS of $0.14-$0.19, below a consensus of $126.8M and $0.23. Rival Mellanox (MLNX +1.2%) is up slightly. (ELX transcript) (QLGC transcript)

Mellanox (MLNX) -28.7% AH after guiding on its Q3 earnings call for Q4 revenue of $145M-$150M, below a $153.1M consensus. The InfiniBand switch/adapter card vendor had little margin for error after a huge 2012 run-up left it with steep multiples. Intel mentioned yesterday demand had weakened for high-end server CPUs, which Mellanox's products are often used with. The guidance could have some negative implications for Oracle's (ORCL) engineered system sales. (previous)

Jannazy $MLNX probably will go to $36 range again when the correction comes. Worse stock ever! Highly speculative. $24 is probably best entry point
