General Discussion on MPEL
Geez I hope you are right! I bought at 13.30. I am quite distressed. I syhould have dumped at 11. I have been looking for reasons and can so far only find.... 1) The rainy season. 2) Baccarat is all they want to play in Macau lately. 3) They are having trouble meeting building expenses and "payouts". 4) They just overshot the mark.WYNN is up today...bringing Cirque d' soleil to Macau. We're sitting with unbuilt towers to sell and rent.
Not sure whether to hold...or by another 100 if it hits 8. Arghhhhh.... Reply

MPEL has great earnings and no dout about it and trades at 50% from the IPO price at 19. It is ridiculous to say, although MPEbL improved fundamentals and trades at 50% of IPO price. For sure it is giving tough compettion to others in Macau and gaining market share. People will recognise the potential here in MPEL,hold on ReplyBuy Opportunity in Gaming Stocks: Reduced Targets, Easier Comparables [view article]
The p/e on LVS is insanely expensive even at this beaten-up level. If you're a value investor and have patience you'd be wise to stay away from these stocks. ReplyDwyer

Excellent analysis. Macau will be bullish for a very long time. And MPEL should be too. ReplyWaddell

Earnings announcements are a funny thing in the current invesment climate. Seems the market is currently rewarding write-downs and other mishaps and discounting companies with improving fundamentals and positive earnings surprises relative to street estimates.I think many retail investors have the feeling that the Macau story has been "played out", and has led to overvaluations in their multiples. This may be the case with a few of the gaming operators that may have taken on a bit more leverage than they can handle.
Over time the "good" money should come into this company's ownership structure as they begin to see the whole picture and future pipeline. Seems there are currently a lot of speculators trying to catch a huge earnings surprise and providing a lot of short-term volitility.
I plan to do a follow-up on Melco-PBL, specifically refrencing its valuation and a comparables valuation. Reply

i agree with you was shocked after positive earnings and other good news to see stock fall like a rocket, from the big blocks being sold it must have been the big boys somebody, very strange, all looks a bit fishy to me. ReplySchweitzer

US manufacturing economy stalling per today's news. "Manufacturing activity in the New York area deteriorated slightly in May, the New York Federal Reserve Bank said Thursday. The bank's Empire State Manufacturing index fell to negative 3.2 in May from 0.6 in April. This is the third month in the last four that the index has been negative. Readings below zero indicate contraction. The report was weaker than expected. Economists were expecting to be essentially flat in April. "Expect Basic Materials IYM to pull back. There are some interesting comments on this board. I think that the companies that do a lot of business in the local Las Vegas market will see a large bump in May and June from the "economic stimulus" payments. The local gamers will look at that $600 as a free bet and they will waste it all at the local casinos. There are also some interesting catalysts that will occur over the next few months. I like BYD because it is so beat up right now, but they will be opening a new casino next month that should add to their cash flow. I'm a value guy so I'm looking about 12-18 months out, and I think BYD will be at $36 In 2009. Get in now and double your money. ReplyGeneral Discussion on MPEL

Thanks for your comments stacked up and FalseProfits. They are really amusing. You sound like very impatient and angry investors. It's easy to dislike gaming stocks near a bottom. But you have no more foresight than a weather man who sticks his head out the window to give a forecast. I've never denied the fact that I've taken big hits in gaming this year, nut I also know how to "buy low" instead of buying "what's hot". Risk that they could go bankrupt? That's really laughable. As for my prognostications, have you checked out the PENN deal lately? You may want to read my comments on that from a few months ago. ReplyBuy Opportunity in Gaming Stocks: Reduced Targets, Easier Comparables [view article]
The article misses the point that the gaming stocks are at inflated valuations based on mis-informed opinions that profits are going to skyrocket in the future. Free cash flow is hugely negative at LVS and WYNN. In fact, LVS's operating income can't even cover its interest payments, and this is before the huge capex they have been incurring is yet to seep into depreciation. There is a real risk that they could go bankrupt. Reply
