Buy Opportunity in Gaming Stocks: Reduced Targets, Easier Comparables [view article]
Is this the same guy who keeps touting gaming stocks month after rotten month of declining stock prices?
There is absolutely NO reason to enter the gaming sector at this time.
The writer states a rather weak reason for buying which, inanely is, the numbers are so poor this year, that next year the numbers will look great ! In fact, while the numbers may look better (I don't think
so), what in the hell is exciting about beating weak numbers ?
Las Vegas is the 5th most expensive city in the US to vacation.
Convention business is down 16% ...An enormous hit for Vegas.
Tourist traffic incoming at McCarron airport is down. Room rates are down. Non-gaming revenues are down. Construction expenses are up Costs of borrowing to finance the endless mega-projects are up and harder to finance. The Vegas local economy is a disaster..Gas is close to $4.00 per gallon, killing the California week-enders business.
If the dollar ever seriously strengthens, tourist business will suffer
greatly..Foreigners are basically holding up the paltry numbers now.
We could compose an endless list of reasons for not buying gaming stocks at this time. Long term ? I would guess these stocks are a buy..However,, why tie up your investment dollars for 5 years in a losing scenario, when there are better undervalued plays in the market ?

Tracking Jim Cramer's Performance: January 2007 Stock Picks [view article]
I have made some small investments based on Cramer's recommendations. I'm glad they were small purchases. I even followed his rules on buying, waiting even a few weeks after his tout and buying incrementally. The bottom line is that his recommended stocks (MELI, RVBD, SIGM et. al.) are DOGS. They are down over 50%! The other few stocks, which I purchased, went down immediately and took a long time to get back to par at which time I dumped them. If one has any sense, one will avoid Cramer's picks like the plague. The guy is all show. HE KNOWS NOTHING! He's no different than any other stock market touter who promotes the market even during the worst of times. Beware of those who never say sell and get out.

Are Casino Stocks No Longer Recession-Proof? [view article]
All the gaming stocks are down now. If you're smart you will load up on them.Take LVS,MGM Mirage,Wynn. The founders all own more than 50% of their stock and they are Billionaires. Sheldon Adelson of LVS owns 70 to 90% of the company and he is the 3rd richest man in the country.
I have also invested in Kirkorian from the days when he built what is now Bally's and I have made money on each one of his ventures.
Steve Wynn has also been very profitable. I wish I had bought him when he first came out at 13.00 a share. And I might add he has paid a healthy dividend the last two years.
Boyd is another good one which is really down now. When the Echelon opens in the third quarter of 2010 I figure the stock to be around $100.00a share.
Yes Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World and will be for a long time to come

If you buy stock in mgm, you're only buying bigger and better toys for the greasy fat cats that care more about their bottom line than about the people at the bottom who worked for that bottom line. SELL YOUR MGM STOCK!!! Reply

Tracking Jim Cramer: Stellar February 2007 Performance [view article]
Why in the world would you judge Cramer based on the lightning round? Its clearly meant to give off-the-top-of-the-hea... responses and is there to keep interest from viewers. To suggest that investors blindly follow lightning round picks is to suggest that viewers are mindless robots. If you want to be serious, evaluate him based on stock picks in his prepared discussions. Reply

Michael, you are right. Cramer frequently changes his opinions. But I went back and checked. Seeking Alpha does not have any references to Cramer discussing MPEL between January 25th and February 8th where he would have announced a change in his opinion. Reply

Peter Lynch: No, it is only one month. Beside, he had a dismal performance on Jan.

neverenuff: The data is from seekingalpha. Jim Cramer does change his mind often.

sniper6: Leonard the Monkey should do better over the long run than most people including Jim Cramer, because he is not emotional. I have no data to support the above statement though.

ED: I am indeed in trouble if I only write about Jim Cramer. That's well taken.

Steve: You can do that research and enlighten us. However, it is probably not worth your time if you are a serious investor.

Cramer rarely advocates such a blind "buy and hold for 1 year" strategy. His usual holding period is much less. What does his record look like when measured over just a few months? Reply

Are you sure of your facts? I do not have a transcript of the February 8th broadcast but the week of January 25th Cramer was advising viewers to "sell, sell, sell" MPEL. Reply
