Apple Joins Microsoft in Fear Factor; Look to Lenovo [view article]
You've got to be kidding. Some idiot is living in 'fear' because he is using a product that he hacked and is worried that it won't work the way he wants? Huh?He's afraid iTunes will "brick" (word du jour) his iPhone? Or a new OS will give him some install difficulties?
It's obvious his guy has a Windows past. I guess what's really happening is he read a couple articles about some people having problems with their Apple products and he is having flashbacks to his days with Microsoft. Sad, really sad.
It's obvious you never spent much time with OS X or a recent Mac and are just posting this to further any interest you might have in Lenovo. Reply

I'm sorry I didn't go for a Macbook Pro when our company handed out Lenova's Thinkpads.I along with several of my employees have lost hundreds of hours of productivity using this PC. It constantly locks, early aborts applications, and is just plain not reliable.
I spoke with another Director today and he said he lost a hard drive on his, it was in the shop, he was happy because he thought he was out of vacation !
Go for the Macbook Pro, I have one for personal use, and upgraded to Leopard, it was painless. Reply

What utter rubbish. This is showing the paid to dispense FUD campaign from Microsoft is in full flow. The difference between Microsoft and Apple is the difference between cheese and diamond.
They are not comparable.
Leopard has had a few issues, most of which have been fixed with 4 weeks of its launch. Bearing in mind it is an OS from the future compared to anything from Microsoft, that is not surprising.

Whoever "fear" Apple product must be living under a rock for the past 20 years. Apple makes the most intuitive devices and software. There is nothing to fear about it. Fear of upgrading the iTune? You have got to be kidding me. What people should fear is if they still run Windows Vista or having one of those Palm OS based devices. Now those software are scary. But if people are buying to resell them at a premium, that means there's a ton of demand. ReplyNintendo Wii Flying Off Shelves, Facing Supply Shortages [view article]
FYI - one of the main reasons this is happening is Ebay.People are buying 20 or more at a time online with difference CC's and at stores with friends and selling them at a $100 premium.
I'd expect the situation to clear up pretty quickly after Xmas. Reply

Google Mobile: Winners and Losers [view article]
How would carriers lose is beyond my comprehension; more off-the-shelf wireless devices drives higher wireless/data traffic and more contract signed.Tight control exercised by carriers? IMO they are just doing quality control. iPhone connection problems in UK were a result of poor hardware design and time constrained validation process.
If you buy an off-the-shelf phone and it works poorly with AT&T, guess who you would blame? AT&T. Not the white-box cellphone maker, even when a proper AT&T validated device is having full bars at the same spot. Reply

Interesting that you cited the drive makers as "stocks to watch". I think you're right: more availability of cheap or free online storage will cut demand for external hard drives, which have been selling well recently (see seekingalpha.com/artic... )Reply

Let's not forget Symbian (and by extension the owners of Symbian).04.5% - Samsung
08.4% - Siemens
10.5% - Panasonic
13.1% - Sony Ericsson
15.6% - Ericsson
47.9% - Nokia
Their investments in Symbian have arguably decreased in value due to the gPhone consortia.
UIQ and the various companies that invested in UIQ similarly are definitely square in the sights of the gPhone.
There's no doubt that Windows Mobile / Windows CE / whatever the other Windows-based phone OS's are are losers in the sense that they'll be negatively impacted. But it's definitely not clear whether or not they're losers in the sense that they've lost. So I agree that this has yet to be determined.
