    Disagree,

We in the outside have no way to know the truth, but appear to me, Yahoo never wanted a deal of any sort. MSFT first offer $41 a share, they said NO, then $31 they said NO, then $33 they said No, then partial deal they said NO. No only that, they made a deal with google, that's stupidest thing in the world. And they generate an employee protection plan, which is no question they want stop any acquisition. You know why, because Jerry in control.

Can't understand why there are so many stupid people in this world.

Are you for real? this is business, not grade school! Toughen up or get steamrolled. MSFT made a more than fair offer and got rejected and now they have a chance to get what they want at a far better price!? Now THAT's having the best interest of the shareholder in mind which is far more than anyone can say about Yahoo. MSFT is doing exactly what it should be doing and trying to maximize the value of the deal for their shareholder. If that means playing hardball, then so be it. Reply

I disagree with the assessment. It's disingenuous at this point to tout Yahoo as "standing at the altar" (which I think is pure hyperbole) and castigate Microsoft for trying other tactics-- Yahoo spurned attempt after attempt by Microsoft, to its own detriment. Yang's stubbornness has cost the company dearly. I don't blame Microosft at all for wanting a clean slate with which to work-- the current board has proven itself inept at best and suicidal (in a corporate sense) at worst.

Too late to pity Yahoo IMO. They had their shot, and blew it.

As they say, "All is fair in love and war." MSFT and YHOO are certainly at war, and I agree with you; I am getting disgusted with the way MSFT is pursuing this. YHOO is totally inept, and MSFT is a bully. Reply

5 Reasons Microsoft Will Get SaaS Right [view article]
SaaS alone will definitely not topple Microsoft, and I do think they will eventually figure it out to some extent. However, I do think they are showing several very large weaknesses right now. The major weakness they are currently showing is the fact that they have apparently forgotten to listen to their market and customers ignoring the pleas to keep XP around and attempting to force people to Vista. So, the biggest question that we will find out fairly soon is how much will that move hurt them. Apart from that, the next biggest question is how deep into the company is this disregard for the market/customer imbedded? They have no chance in the SaaS market if they take this attitude there as well. Reply

The Yahoo website would quickly deteriorate under MSFT: think Hotmail and MSN. I don't want MSFT to takeover Yahoo. Reply

This is excellent drama, much better than any of those tired soaps. The way MSFT is handling this case is awesome! I can bet someone is already writing the script for a TV movie, like the Barbarians At The Gate. It's just such a rich cat-and-mouse play. Hmmm, only if MSFT had a Tom instead of Steve; then I could have called it Tom and Jerry show. :-D Reply

As both a college girl and an aspiring financial journalist, let me just say:

Who needs Gossip Girl when you have Microsoft and Yahoo?

Who ever listens to analysts for price guidance anyways -in volatile times like today, these guys are just happy they are hanging on to their jobs. Very few if any, are willing to stick their neck out to provide real thought leadership on the direction of the market/industry and real company specific earnings guidance. Reply

"I'm waiting for Icahn's proxy mail out so I can help vote out the current board. With the shareholder meeting less than a month away I hope it comes soon."

Don't be stupid. Yahoo's BoD may not be "rocket scientists, but they are geniuses compared to any Board that allows Ballmer a role above the level of janitor. The "Vista" bureaucracy would be wholly incapable of managing a content company; they can't even show a profit in most of their own divisions.

Why didn't MSFT try proxy fight by itself? Maybe they didn't want to pay full price? Expect an offer in range $25-27.50 if Icahn wins. Forget about $31, never mind $33. Reply
