Microsoft (MSFT -2.2%) pours cold water on speculation it's courting Electronic Arts (ERTS -3.4%). "We have no plans to acquire EA," Microsoft's Phil Spencer told Reuters. "They remain a very important partner to us. No acquisitions." Spencer wouldn't comment, however, on whether MSFT had held talks with ERTS. Analysts are also lukewarm to the deal's prospects.

Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) is cutting the price of its popular Wii game console by 20%, a response to similar cuts by rivals Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT). In the U.S., a Wii will now set you back $199.99, $50 less than before. PS3 and Xbox each cost about $300. Nintendo has so far outsold its rivals in this generation of consoles, but sales have tailed off in recent months.

Bing (MSFT +1.1%) took 9.3% of the U.S. search market in comScore's August survey, with total searches up 6.7% from July, while Google (GOOG +0.9%) and Yahoo (YHOO -0.7%) were both down marginally. Goldman Sachs is impressed: "We believe that Microsoft will continue to build on these early gains to form a strong presence in the online advertising market, a potentially needle-moving success for the company."

Bullish note from Collins Stewart fails to lift Yahoo (YHOO -2.3%). "We have been suggesting investors go Long YHOO more aggressively ever," firm says, noting YHOO's improvement story "is not fully reflected in the current stock price." The Microsoft (MSFT) search deal will deliver savings, Collins says, but so will work culture changes from silo-driven to operationally efficient.

Microsoft's (MSFT) newest Zune doesn't take pictures, lacks a full-blown app store, and ditches its largely-unsuccessful 'squirting' feature. But Microsoft says it has remained faithful to the device's original intent - as a media player - including a 3-inch screen, and HD radio and video playback.
