- Friday, January 25, 10:44 AM Informatica's (INFA +10.4%) big Q4 beat (I, II) is stoking a rally in enterprise software stocks. Microsoft's decent Server & Tools performance might also be helping . Business intelligence/analytics firms are among the standouts - SPLK +2.8%. QLIK +7.2%. TIBX +3.8%. TDC +3.9%. MSTR +3.5% - but there are also others. SAP +2.6%. RHT +3.3%. N +2.4%. CTXS +1.7%. On its earnings call, Informatica noted Facebook is a buyer of its new PowerCenter Big Data Edition software, which can handle data integration projects on Hadoop clusters and many other platforms. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, January 23, 12:46 PM NetSuite (N +2.6%) rallies on an upgrade to Buy from Lazard, which sees the cloud business app/e-commerce software maker's sales investments translating into additional "beat and raise" quarters. Goldman downgraded NetSuite last Friday on valuation grounds. Q4 results are due on Jan. 31. 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, January 18, 10:29 AM NetSuite (N -2.2%) slumps after getting downgraded to Neutral by Goldman and yanked from the firm's Conviction Buy list; valuation is cited. The provider of cloud ERP/CRM/e-commerce software has had a nice run-up over the last 8 months. (Retail Anywhere purchase) Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 10, 2:39 PM NetSuite (N -1.1%) has acquired Retail Anywhere, a developer of point-of-sale (POS) software for retailers, for an undisclosed sum. NetSuite argues a combo of Retail Anywhere's offerings, which include mobile, analytics, and inventory management software, and NetSuite's SuiteCommerce e-commerce platform allow it to deliver an end-to-end retail solution. The purchase puts NetSuite in competition with NCR, which recently announced it's buying POS software firm Retalix. (more) Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Friday, January 4, 5:54 PM Global SaaS/cloud software sales will rise a solid 25% this year to $59B, and another 25% in 2014 to $74B, predicts Forrester. The research firm also sees corporate adoption of Apple (AAPL) hardware continuing to grow: it expects Mac/iPad sales to businesses growing to $18B in 2013 from $15B in $2012. Forrester's original forecast for 2012 corporate Mac/iPad sales proved aggressive. Needham (citing Gartner data) has estimated Mac sales to U.S. businesses rose 49% Y/Y in Q3. 2 Comments [Tech]
- Wednesday, November 21, 2012, 10:48 AM Salesforce.com (CRM +6.6%) is now staring at big gains in response to its FQ3 report (I, II), and is also giving a lift to peers Workday (WDAY +1.9%) and NetSuite (N +2%). Though guidance wasn't impressive, Needham and others are satisfied with Salesforce's 31% Y/Y bookings growth, given macro and IT spending headwinds. Marc Benioff, never shy to brag, mentioned on the earnings call Heroku and Force.com now host over 2.8M apps, and that several big deals were signed for the new Marketing Cloud suite. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 12:38 PM Is competition forcing SAP to lower its maintenance contract pricing? Cowen's Peter Goldmacher reports SAP has been offering big discounts for the high-margin contracts to clients looking to cut IT spending and "evaluating lower cost alternatives." Cloud vendors have long pitched the ability to avoid giant maintenance contracts as a selling point for their software. Their apps have already taken a decent chunk of the CRM and HR software markets, and (in some areas) are beginning to make inroads in SAP's core ERP software market. 1 Comment [Tech, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 5:55 PM Demandware (DWRE -5.9%) sold off today. One possible reason: NetSuite (N +15%) noted on its Q3 earnings call its SuiteCommerce platform, which competes with Demandware's e-commerce software solutions, is successfully moving upmarket, and was adopted by "a couple multi-billion dollar retailers" during Q3. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 12:45 PM Midday top 10 gainers: DV +25%. AMCC +24%. RCON +21%. TASR +18%. NEU +17%. STMP +16%. VAR +16%. ELMD +14%. N +14%. TSYS +15%. Midday top 10 Losers: CBRX -42%. CTCT -26%. MXWL -23%. HMSY -21%. VRSN -19%. REDF -16%. DECK -18%. UQM -17%. IPCM -16%. BJRI -15%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 6:02 PM NetSuite (N) guides on its Q3 call for 2013 revenue of $390M, above a $376.3M consensus. Also, the company noted in its report that deferred revenue rose by $5.7M Q/Q to $135.7M. Shares +5.4% AH. Cloud ERP peer Workday (WDAY) could rally in sympathy tomorrow - both companies fell today as part of a general selloff in enterprise tech names. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 4:30 PM NetSuite (N): Q3 EPS of $0.08 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $79.8M (+31% Y/Y) beats by $1.8M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 2:33 PM It's been a rough week for enterprise IT stocks. Many sold off yesterday following EMC and Juniper's reports, and a number are pressured today thanks to disappointing results and/or guidance from F5, Fusion-io, ServiceNow, and Citrix. Cloud software, big data, and networking plays are among the losers: CRM -2.1%. WDAY -5%. N -2.2%. SPLK -4.1%. RVBD -4%. PANW -2.6%. ARUN -5.2%. NTGR -2.6%. TIBX -2.8%. QLIK -3.1%. Comment!
