- Monday, May 20, 5:38 PM Carnival (CCL) -4.5% AH after warning it expects 2013 EPS of $1.45-$1.65, below prior guidance of $1.80-$2.10 and a consensus of $1.97. The cruise line operator says its net revenue yield will be down 2%-3% in 2013, worse than prior guidance for flat growth, thanks to soft ticket pricing, higher-than-expected trip cancellations, and higher sales/admin costs. It looks as if Hedgeye was right. RCL -1.5% in sympathy. NCLH could also end up falling. Comment! [Consumer, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 9, 3:26 PM Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL -1.2%) could hit choppy waters, according to Hedgeye. The research firm's monthly pricing survey shows Carnival is having to get very aggressive with promotions to keep cruises full - while peers Royal Caribbean (RCL -0.6%) and Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH -0.4%) continue to take advantage of the hit to Carnival's reputation this year. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Monday, May 6, 4:26 PM Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH): Q1 EPS of $0.06 beats by $0.03. Revenue of $527.6M beats by $21.88M. Shares -1% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, On the Move]
- Wednesday, April 17, 1:28 PM Carnival (CCL -1%) will spend over $600M to add extra generators and improved fire suppression systems to its fleet of ships run under the Carnival Cruise Lines flag and other cruise lines it owns. The string of headline-grabbing incidents this year with Carnival ships has affected Wave Season bookings, according to industry watchers. While Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH -0.9%) is showing strong demand and Royal Caribbean (RCL -0.8%) is mildly ahead of last year's pace, Carnival is discounting prices by as much as 8% and bookings are off by over 10%. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, April 3, 9:05 AM A channel check by Jefferies indicates cruise line operators Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH) and Royal Caribbean (RCL) are benefiting from the woes of Carnival (CCL). Ticket prices are improving for the pair, while Carnival has been forced to get more promotional to make up for a slew of troubling headlines. Comment! [Consumer]
- Monday, March 18, 9:29 AM Carnival's (CCL) Legend made it back into port yesterday after engine troubles limited its sailing speed. Unfortunately, for the company - and perhaps the industry (RCL, NCLH) - politicians have grabbed ahold of the issue. New York Senator Charles Schumer proposed a "Cruise Ship Passenger Bill of Rights" to improve conditions and expectations in the industry. CCL -3.2% premarket. 2 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, March 15, 9:44 AM A disappointing outlook for profits from Carnival as well as yet more cruise liner problems on the open water are spilling over to taint sector peers. Royal Caribbean (RCL -2%) and Norwegian Cruise Holdings (NCLH -1.3%). are both weak on the day. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 14, 10:02 AM Shares of Royal Caribbean (RCL -0.1%) and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH -0.8%) are taking on a little water after peer Carnival (CCL -0.5%) finds itself with another cruise liner with engine problems. Carnival is out with a Facebook post on the mishap, saying it's working on the "technical issue" and that although the ship lost service for elevators and toilets for a few hours - it never lost power. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, March 11, 7:17 AM The cruise industry (CCL, RCL, NCLH) steps up its discounting activity after a couple of misadventures on the high seas grabbed the media spotlight. According to travel experts, cruises to Alaska and Europe are seeing the biggest increases in promotional activity. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Friday, March 8, 3:26 PM Royal Caribbean (RCL -2.5%) says 105 passengers on one of its cruise liners fell ill to a virus, forcing the ship back to a Florida port. Though the industry has a long time history of steering right around minor PR hiccups, analysts think the escalated pace of onboard sickness outbreaks (CDC list) and recent Carnival mishaps could dent industry demand. Sector movers: CCL -1.5%, NCLH -1.1%. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Wednesday, March 6, 12:46 PM The cruise line group (CCL, RCL, NCLH) looks promising to Credit Suisse with strong onboard revenue opportunities helping to offset a sluggish recovery for ticket pricing. The upturn is led by key components such as casino, alcohol, and premium services. Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, February 27, 7:11 AM JPMorgan initiates coverage on Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH) with an Overweight rating. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, February 14, 11:41 AM Carnival (CCL -1%) slips lower again as the cruise operator's warning on H1 earnings due to its stranded cruise ship continues to affect sentiment. In the sector, the mishap in the middle of Wave Season is also taking a toll on shares of Royal Caribbean (RCL -0.7%), while Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH -0.4%) has ridden out the choppiness in fine fashion to continue its impressive post-IPO run. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 12, 8:36 AM Shares of Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH) shoot up 6.5% premarket after Nomura upgrades the cruise operator to a Buy rating with a fresh price target of $35. The company is in the middle of the critical Wave Season with a key rival floundering a bit with a disabled ship in the Gulf of Mexico. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, February 11, 6:41 PM Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH): posts a mixed Q4, missing top line estimates but beating on a per share basis on from higher yields from both passenger ticket and onboard and other revenue. For FY13, it sees an EPS of $1.20 - $1.40, versus the average estimate of $1.26. Shares +4% AH. Comment! [Consumer, Earnings, On the Move]

But with a PE of 3, Norwegian Cruise Line ($NCLH) seems way cheaper than Carnival ($CCL) or Royal Caribbean Cruises ($RCL). - View all 0 replies
