- Thursday, May 24, 2012, 12:13 PM Netflix (NFLX) is a "frenemy" of the cable industry, Cox CEO Patrick Esser maintains. While admitting Netflix is a content rival, Esser also notes 40% of Cox's broadband customers streamed Netflix content in March. - Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 1:47 PM AMC Networks' (AMCX -0.1%) Mad Men ratings have been soaring, and Netflix (NFLX +3%), which last year struck a costly deal to carry old episodes, is taking credit. The 1.1M viewer increase seen for the debut episode of Season 5 relative to Season 4's average is the result of viewers watching earlier seasons on Netflix, suggests content chief Ted Sarandos. - Thursday, May 17, 2012, 11:26 AM Disney (DIS -0.5%) plans to launch a new video site that serves as a portal for clips and movie trailers, as well as select YouTube videos as a Google-Disney content deal starts to bear fruit. A beta version of the site tips off that it's formatted to work on mobile devices and tablets. - Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 5:24 PM As Netflix (NFLX -4.2%) has another down day, CFO David Wells proclaims customers who cancelled their subscriptions last year due to displeasure with Netflix's price hike are rejoining the service, and that rejoining subscribers (those who left a year ago or less) amount to 1/3 of new subscriptions. Netflix (NFLX) announces a deal with 20th-Century Fox (NWS, NWSA) that gives it Latin streaming rights for 24, Prison Break, and four other TV shows, as well as a set of classic films that includes Wall Street. - Friday, May 4, 2012, 9:28 AM Cablevision (CVC) will join Comcast (CMCSA - previous) in offering a Netflix-like (NFLX) streaming service for its cable/broadband customers, predicts BTIG's Richard Greenfield. As evidence, he points to remarks made during Cablevision's earnings call about new software investments. - Thursday, May 3, 2012, 6:02 PM Netflix (NFLX -7.6%) closed at levels last seen in early January after Viacom (VIA, VIAB) stated on its FQ2 earnings call Epix's movies will be available on Netflix "under any circumstance," but other streaming partners might also be added.
