- Wednesday, October 20, 2010, 12:10 AM Notable earnings after Wednesday's close: AMLN, ETFC, EBAY, ESV, FNF, ISIL, LRCX, NFLX, NFX, NE, RHI, STX, TEX, TSS, XLNX Comment!
- Monday, October 11, 2010, 1:49 PM "Category killers" were supposed to glide online and leverage brands into "clicks and mortar" success, but Blockbuster's just the latest example of physical chains' struggles. Unlike Sears (SHLD) - which had decades to rest on mail-order laurels - Netflix (NFLX) will have to stay nimble as its market moves to streaming video. Comment!
- Wednesday, October 6, 2010, 1:19 PM Netflix (NFLX -4.8%) adds another studio in its quiet but steady transition toward streaming, reaching a pact with Sony (SNE) that has a now-typical trade-off: Netflix agrees not to rent Sony movies for 28 days after they go on sale, and gets reduced fees when it can rent, and more movies for the streaming service. (previously) 1 Comment
- Monday, September 27, 2010, 10:20 AM Netflix (NFLX +1%) shares bounce back from early weakness attributed to a NY Times story regarding new competition from the likes of Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG). The next war will not be won by the company that perfects the logistics of moving DVDs, it says, but by whoever can best negotiate with Hollywood studios. Comment!
- Friday, September 24, 2010, 8:54 AM Netflix (NFLX) CEO Reed Hastings apologizes for putting his "Big American Foot" in his mouth for saying "self-absorbed" Americans wouldn't notice that Canada was getting a $7.99/month streaming-only option not available in the U.S. Remember, though, that streaming currently offers only 20% of the movies available by DVD. 1 Comment
- Monday, September 13, 2010, 2:36 PM On Henry Blodget's list of potential tech takeovers: Travelzoo (TZOO), Comscore (SCOR), Shutterfly (SFLY), Blue Nile (NILE), Akamai (AKAM), ARM Holdings (ARMH), Netflix (NFLX), Salesforce.com (CRM), Research In Motion (RIMM). Comment!
- Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 4:37 PM From the geek squad at TechCrunch, the verdict on Apple's (AAPL) new toys: "Everything is great in the land of Apple gadgets" - especially the new iPod touch - but the "closed-minded" Apple TV is little more than a "Netflix (NFLX) streaming box." 5 Comments
- Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 3:12 PM Apple (AAPL +2.5%) was busy at its fall event, rolling out a smaller, cheaper version of Apple TV for streaming movies and TV shows over the internet and into the living room; it also unveiled a new line of iPods, including a touch-screen Nano. Netflix (NFLX +8.4%) jumps as its key role in Apple TV is revealed. 1 Comment
- Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 8:48 AM The competition is heating up over digital media: Sony (SNE) will unveil a new music and video subscription service today, just hours before Apple’s (AAPL) music-themed press conference, while Amazon (AMZN) is talking with media firms about offering unlimited views of older TV shows and movies online. Comment!
- Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 7:40 AM Amazon (AMZN) is working on a subscription service that would provide TV shows and movies over the internet, upping the competition with Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX), and Google (GOOG). It recently pitched the idea to execs at NBC (GE), Time Warner (TWX), News Corp (NWS) and Viacom (VIA). 1 Comment
- Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 5:05 PM Apple's (AAPL) revamped version of Apple TV, expected to be announced tomorrow, is said to include a streaming service for movies from Netflix (NFLX). Users would pay a subscription fee to Netflix for the service. NFLX +1%, AAPL +0.4% AH. 2 Comments
- Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 3:11 PM The internet companies sued by Paul Allen for patent infringement will be able to mount aggressive defenses, including that the billionaire sued too late. The technology has been widely used, so if it was proprietary, why would Allen not have sued years ago? Comment!
- Monday, August 30, 2010, 8:13 AM Google is said to be in negotiations with some of Hollywood's top studios to launch a global pay-per-view video service by the end of 2010 via YouTube. The move would put Google in greater competition with Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX) and Hulu (GE, NWS, DIS) over the digital distribution of film and television content. Comment!
- Friday, August 27, 2010, 2:42 PM Paul Allen sues 11 companies for violating patents developed at his Silicon Valley lab: Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG), Yahoo (YHOO), AOL, eBay (EBAY), Netflix (NFLX), Office Depot (ODP), OfficeMax (OMX), Staples (SPLS), Facebook and Google's YouTube subsidiary. Not named: Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN). Comment!
- Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 4:23 PM Something that eventually could stop the Netflix (NFLX) stock juggernaut: HBO (TWX) won't play ball. Netflix has proven that there is a market for a deep catalog of older movies and TV programs, so much so that HBO intends to stick with its plan to make shows and movies available online through its planned HBO Go. Comment!
- Tuesday, August 10, 2010, 11:48 AM Netflix (NFLX +5.7%) broadens its streaming appeal through a deal with pay channel Epix to distribute films from Epix's owners: Paramount (VIA), Lions Gate (LGF) and MGM - another step in what almost looks like Netflix's transition into a premium TV channel. Comment!

Watch NFLX here in the $122 range. The 62% fibonacci support of today's up move is at $122.06. Has to hold $122 or will reverse by close. - View all 6 replies

Brian Benda: Yes, I am well aware of that. Silly that anyone thought this news was good for the stock. Just further demonstrates their incompetence. -
Brian Benda: This might sound crazy, but I think the stock might actually have been higher today if they didn't make this announcement.

Brian Benda: NFLX now below where it was on Thursday and Friday at session highs without the news. And, this is on a day where the markets are up huge.
