Tuesday, February 26, 8:31 AM AstraZeneca (AZN) says there were "no reports of opioid withdrawal" that could be attributed to its Naloxegol laxative in a fourth Phase III trial. AZN and partner Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR) will use the outcome to obtain decontrol of naloxegol, which is considered a Schedule II controlled substance by the DEA. With the testing demonstrating other "high-level" safety results, AstraZeneca plans to file for FDA and EU approval of Naloxegol in Q3. (PR) 1 Comment [Healthcare]
Monday, February 25, 7:28 AM Affymax (AFFY) prints at $3.41 premarket, -78.8%, following yesterday's report of the Omontys recall. AFFY has no other late-stage drugs in its pipeline. Piper expects shares to trade to cash value (~$2) "as investors take into account the lack of visibility." In play: AMGN, whose Epogen dominates the antianemia market (+2.4%), NKTR (which earns royalties on Omontys sales), and FMS, which pulled a trial two weeks ago (-1.3%). Comment! Tuesday, January 15, 1:33 PM Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR +5.4%) gets a big boost out of Lazard Capital today, after it initiated the drug developer with a Buy rating and a price target of $15 a share. The company has a solid pipeline with a number of drugs on its docket, including Naloxegol, which has just finished Phase III testing, Cipro DPI with Bayer in Phase III and Baxter 855 and Amikacin Inhale preparing for Phase III. Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 9:33 AM The Street's Adam Feuerstein wonders whether AstraZeneca's (AZN) and Nektar's (NKTR) critical naloxegol product for opioid-induced constipation failed one of its Phase III trials rather than passed it, as the companies indicate. Feuerstein's skepticism is based on AZN retrieving data from one patient that was thought to be non-retrievable after the database for the trial had been locked. 1 Comment [Healthcare]

The trials also brought on no imbalances in serious adverse events. Astrazeneca acquired the worldwide licence for naloxegol from its developer, Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR -0.1%), in 2009. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 10:17 AM Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR +2.1%) says that a Phase 1a clinical study of its drug candidate NKTR-192, a short-acting mu-opioid analgesic for the treatment of acute pain, achieved its target pharmacokinetic profile.
