Nokia Gets No Respect Against Apple, RIM [view article]
The iPhone isnt a phone - its a small computer running OSX.Just HOW is anyone going to match it?
Its also an iPod - in 6 years, no-one has even matched the iPod - its still at 70%.
Once again - just HOW does anyone beat Apple when they have ALL the pieces, and no-one else can use them? Reply

Good and timely analysis. Nokia definitely has and achilles heel in the US, and as you said, they've recognized this and seem to be moving to address it. The JobsPhone phenomenon has changed the game, and the phone toting public are starting to 'get it' as a result. Its a huge breakthrough in phone use evolution. We'll see how long it takes NOK to crank their scale and operational assets and blend them with a form factor and more importantly UI that consumers can love. I would add that I just got a Nokia E71 and its actually pretty damn good. My last 3 phones have been crackberries, and the E71 now matches on style, features and usability. We shall see if this new QWERTY device presages a new and more US friendly approach from Nokia. Reply25 Undervalued Stocks [view article]
that's all very good and well to plonk down a list of stocks, but how about a little bit of in-depth analysis, eh? ReplyWall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [view article]
Until the banking crisis shows clear signs of ending, the overall stock market is unlikely to improve anytime soon. ReplyWall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [view article]
"Wednesday August 20, 6:46 pm ET The banks are the three biggest players in the auction-rate securities market that have not already reached a settlement with Cuomo, who is seeking deals on behalf of regulators and state authorities. Five major Wall Street firms including Citigroup Inc. and Switzerland's UBS AG have agreed to $42 billion in settlements. For the next phase, Cuomo has directed staff to spend more time gathering facts and talking to the three banks about the sale of the risky securities, said a person inside the attorney general's office who asked not to be identified by name because he was not authorized to speak publicly."

MSM [aka corp/media according to george Ure] may be playing games with this story.
"The courts, in practice, can do anything they want for the reason their actions are invisible to the public. But citizens are generally powerless to do anything about it for the reason of the reason of unaccountability in this system.
"Newspapers don't report the news, they shape the news." quipped Libertad co-founder John Gowan.
Mark Twain expressed a similar sentiment when he wrote "Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse."

Having been in Macau last month, I second the comment that the idea will disappear. The opposite has actually happened for tourist visits to Disney Hong Kong. Typically a migrant worker in one of the border towns would have to return home to apply for a Visa to go to Hong Kong. With revenue not meeting expectations, the Chinese government worked out a deal whereby tour groups could go directly to Disney, but no where else in Hong Kong. (The other tourist sites are complaining.) Thus, avoiding the migrant the issue of going home first, where they would most likely stay put.

LVS and WYNN and MGM will throw a few dollars to their Chinese contacts and I have a feeling that the idea to curtail visits to Macau from 6 visits a year to 2 visits a year will disapear. Money talks in China the same as Washington. Continue to buy low and sell high and the gaming stocks are way too low now, (a great buy to hold) I'll sign my name Daniel Kowkabany ReplyDon't Cancel Motorola's Funeral Just Yet [view article]
Moto has been trying to sell the cell phone div for many months. no takers. the phones are flimsy. Icahn is pushing the issue.I don't know about new mgmt unless you mean Icahns boys.
The set-top box business (GI) is commodity.
Moto may have to fall back on its original product-first responder radios.
this company seems to be getting its act together in its turnaround strategies, at least for one quarter anyway
this is a joke, right?? it's all layoffs, nothing new here Reply

Obiously, they are bigger than their cell phone business.. but the Razr V3 phone stinks, so I am reminded of Peter Lynch's words (paraphrased), "If the product stinks, don't buy the company." ReplyDon't Cancel Motorola's Funeral Just Yet [view article]
the best advice is-dont believe anybody about anything.all have an agenda.think for yourself.should you believe this advice?i dont know. ReplyDon't Cancel Motorola's Funeral Just Yet [view article]
When you are elected to run Motorola by the board of directors, then you can do something with your plans. In the mean time, press credentials are no substitute for business management. In contrast to YOUR OPINION, everyone else thinks that Motorola is making progress. When you write something, please clearly identify YOUR OPINION as your opinion as opposed to facts. OrdinaryGuy - Read the article and you'll note that I'm not pronouncing the "death" of this company. And even if I was, I wouldn't need "inside information" to do it. Almost everybody has access to the same information, it's what you do with the information that deems you a good investor (or not).If you have an argument as why we should buy MOT, please present it; otherwise your comments are no more than biased shareholder opinion. Mr. Sun:To pronouce the death of MOT as you do is to also allude to having very good inside information, which you have not demonstrated you have. Its a good thing niether you or anyone else has a monopoly on rational thought and genuine analysis.
As an insignificant holder of MOT stocks, I believe it would take a lot more than your misdirected pronouncement to kill a thing that has a bright future.
Keep trying though, if it makes you happy. Reply

yes, we did notice. we have iPhones. the app store is soaring out of site and i've been getting polled about what is needed to make certain sites better and one choice is now: cell phone compatible (or something like that). i'm amazed that it took these people so long to figure it out, that they actually needed a poll. within a year or two we'll have an iPhone that's really a pocket computer and i'm sure others will follow. the screen resolution is wonderful...so viewing even a movie or tv show is already a lot better than you would think.
