It's the firm's "intention to establish a SUSE business unit on par with the existing Attachmate and NetIQ business units," he says. But that doesn't preclude a future sale of the unit. Comment! Red Hat shares hit a 52-week high earlier this month to $43.79, and it is making a cloud play. Although its market cap is $8B, if its Enterprise Linux "grows as a preferred cloud enabler, watch out." Monday, November 22, 2010, 8:59 AM Attachmate is buying Novell (NOVL) for $2.2B in cash, or $6.10/share. Novell is also selling some of its intellectual property to CPTN Holdings, a Microsoft (MSFT) led consortium, for $450M cash. The Attachmate bid tops a $5.75/share offer from Elliott Associates that Novell rejected earlier this year. Premarket, Novell is +6.8% to $5.97. Comment! [Tech]

Thursday, September 16, 2010, 3:28 PM Novell (NOVL +2.3%) reportedly is in advanced talks with VMware (VMW -1.1%) to sell its Linux operating system business and with private equity firm Attachmate to sell some or all of the remaining assets, including its NetWare network operating system. Comment!
