Loss of Integrity - Cramer's Mad Money Recap (9/3/08) [view article]
Starting from scratch these might be good portfolios. At least they are diversified! ReplyLoss of Integrity - Cramer's Mad Money Recap (9/3/08) [view article]
Right, the taxpayers get stuck with the bad debt and the banks get only the good parts? This is socialism pure and simple. Write your congressman and senator. If they don't respond appropriately then vote the bums out. Remember this is an election year and don't forget to VOTE! ReplyLoss of Integrity - Cramer's Mad Money Recap (9/3/08) [view article]
Cramer says year of natural gas. Don't listen to him. ReplyLoss of Integrity - Cramer's Mad Money Recap (9/3/08) [view article]
Cramer's game (and portfolio approvals) illustrates the danger of overemphasizing diversity at the expense of quality stock selection. ReplyLoss of Integrity - Cramer's Mad Money Recap (9/3/08) [view article]
save for GD, portfolio 2 is "perfectly" in the crapper........... ReplyTransportation Stocks Deserve a Better Look [view article]

What were your thoughts behind the huge put buying in the rails the past several weeks. Is this hedging or a sector rotation. My fav rail over the years has been GWR. ReplyFollowing Buffett's Railroad Tracks [view article]
It doesn't matter whether or not ethanol can only be transported by rail tanker. This is one factor that can be taken out of the equation, given that people are slowly realizing that ethanol is an inefficient method of producing energy, apart from reducing the proportion of crop available for food production, thus raising food prices. That said, rail is a good industry to hold for the long term. Go Trinity! ReplyNorfolk Southern's Pricing Power Drives Profits [view article]
Mariposa: Regarding your query concerning passenger trains: Unless the federal government wakes up to the fact that passenger rail service must be subsidized at higher levels than they are currently to expend and improve AMTRAK, don't expect more passenger trains any time soon. Certainly the freight railroads such as NSC have no desire to become involved in rail passenger service. ReplyNorfolk Southern's Pricing Power Drives Profits [view article]
Enjoying listening to the mournful whistle of NSC every evening. Feels like a friend as I enjoy watching the price rise. I used to watch the cars pass when stopped at the RR crossing, a couple years ago, and noticed how much corn syrup, scrap and coal they were shipping, and also that they had many new looking cars. Decided probably had good future, and decided to invest.Wonder how long before we see more passenger trains. Reply

good article., good company ReplyFollowing Buffett's Railroad Tracks [view article]
irisatrx has it just about right. Or rather, I don't believe this is what Buffett intends to do, but it's what happens anyway. I agree with RightinSanFrancisco that CNI has an excellent business and is undervalued. I keep wanting to buy BNI but CNI is so much cheaper by just about any metric that I can never bring myself to do it. It's a good company, it's just too damned expensive. I blame Buffett for that 100%. ReplyFollowing Buffett's Railroad Tracks [view article]
Buffet makes his money now by purchasing a stock, then announcing that it is a great stock. The lemmings jump on the bandwagon and run up the price; Buffet sells and makes a bundle. It's all in the name. Reply
