More on Riverbed's (RVBD) purchase of Opnet (OPNT): Riverbed says it will integrate Opnet's network performance management (NPM) software with its Cascade NPM appliances. Riverbed recently announced a virtualization-oriented refresh for Cascade, which the company hopes will lower its dependence on its market-leading Steelhead WAN optimization gear. During its Q3 earnings call, Riverbed noted Cascade revenue rose 45% Y/Y, but it only totaled $17M. NetScout (NTCT) could get a lift from the deal when markets re-open.

NetScout Systems (NTCT +19.1%), a provider of network performance monitoring software, takes off after reporting FQ2 revenue of $72.6M (+5% Y/Y) and EPS of $0.24, beating consensus by $2.7M and $0.02. The company's bookings rose 30% Y/Y, and it repurchased 1.3M shares during the quarter. FY12 guidance is being reaffirmed.

At least two analysts are bullish on F5 Networks (FFIV -22.6%) today, with Credit Suisse upgrading the stock to Outperform from Neutral, citing its best-in-class revenue, margins, and earnings/share. Gleacher & Co. also lifted its rating to Buy from Hold, noting the company's application delivery controller offers long-term growth.
