Thursday, May 16, 12:16 PM Cisco JV partner EMC (EMC +4.5%) joins the list of companies rallying in response to Cisco's FQ3 beat and guidance. Cisco mentioned on its earnings call integrated hardware solutions such as Vblock (offered by the Cisco/EMC VCE JV) are driving demand for its UCS servers - Cisco's UCS unit saw 77% Y/Y rev. growth. The company blames challenges in transitioning its ReadyNAS low-end storage line, which led to soft channel partner shipments and hurt product mix/gross margin. Monday, January 28, 5:16 PM Sierra Wireless (SWIR) is selling its AirCard business to NetGear (NTGR) for $138M in cash. SWIR says it intends to use the proceeds to continue its acquisition strategy in the M2M market, and is exploring ways to return part of the proceeds to shareholders. Thursday, January 24, 5:43 PM Cisco (CSCO) is selling its Linksys home networking unit to rival Belkin for an undisclosed sum. The price tag is likely well below the $500M Cisco paid for Linksys in '03. Belkin says it will maintain the Linksys brand - both brands compete with NetGear (NTGR). The deal is another step in Cisco's efforts to cut its dependence on low-margin hardware, and increase its reliance on software and services.
