    Marol,

    Suggestion noted, thank you.

    Georealsit,

    1) The increase from 80K to 270k or from 130/170k to 300/400k for rig/platforms would be meaningful for platforms producing 25,000 bpd or less. For platforms producing 40,000 bpd or more the increase from $55 per barrel to $110 per barrel more than covers the difference.

As stated accurately above "Oil and natural gas, in most cases, would be considered hard assets as well"; emphasis on 'most cases'. The majority of (actually all) platforms in the $400k range produce 40,000 bpd or more.

    2) What newsletter are you referring to? The CrossProfit site is free without advertisements as well.

    InvestorsLive.com,

Nice site. BTU is a long term long in our opinion.

    kotika,

From our understanding of your comment, you seem to miss the point of the article. Perhaps you would like to expound a bit.

blah....blah...blah....steel, coal and oil are hard assets, but MTL, BTU, XOM and all the others are paper assets by definition! Reply

The inflationary inputs at the early stages .."hard"....are low...so are you saying that the return on inputs there is high?? You might have a very hrd time convincing an oil/gas major paying $400K a day for an offshore platform his inflationary input is low..but what the hell...All you're doing is writing a semi-literate (generous..not hard) article that's main objective is selling your newsletter..which must be a real treat! A suggestion. I almost missed this article as I assumed "soft" assets were food, etc. Maybe a more descriptive title for those of us who are not in the know. Reply

Good trading degu77! If you are a long term investor I think you are in a world of hurt. There is no way the economy/market can survive oil at $116. Since the USA depends on oil more than any other country we are going to get the short end of the stick. Reply

degu what are you talking about? As I recall the market was unstopable from Aug through October, going from 12500 to 14200 after the summer swoon. How great would you have felt writing what you did after that little run?

Investors want to believe good news and that is what they are doing. They did the same thing last fall, how did that work out?

So you think it is rational for a market to be 8% down from its crazy inflated highs after what we know about the credit crisis, soaring commodity prices and a pending recession?

Numbers are coming down but companies are being rewarded for meeting lowered guidance. A ten percent cut in earnings is leading to a five percent drop in stock price and when earnings are met we see a rise in the price. The bottom line is earnings went down.

Good call on "staying in a cash position". LOL, obviously I'm being sarcastic. I got in GOOG this week.

If you can read between the lines, then maybe you can make some accurate positions and make some real money kiddo. Have fun on the sidelines!!

Terrible call by you!! You have officially lost all your credibility.

Thank you for laying it out clear and simply..couldn't agree with you more, and i've only been in the investing world since January. My next question is, what happens when people DO realize what reality is and everything comes tumbling down? Or do 'they' somehow spin it so others might see it as an 'investment opportunity'. Reply

Dividend Aristocrats: Top Dividend Growers [view article]
Did I miss something? Didn't NUE cut its dividend this year? I'm a big fan of dividend stocks, but this company's numbers in terms of dividend growth are misleading: there was a HUGE divy increase followed by a year in which the divy remained virtually unchanged, followed by a significant cut to its current level.

If you want to talk overall (i.e. cumulative) returns, that's a different story, but this stock does not belong on this list.

I see Nucor got downgraded today. Analyst says because the price of Iron Ore has skyrocketed. Huhloooooo!. Nucor uses scrap steel to produce what they make. Somebody should wake this guy up. But then, he IS in Bangalore Reply
