Wednesday, May 1, 5:24 AM More on Novo Nordisk's (NVO) Q1: Stronger insulin and Victoza sales drive a 28% increase in Q1 profits. Specifically, the company says sales of diabetes treatment Victoza soared 35% during the period, while revenues from modern insulins rose 14%. The company's results shrugged-off a U.S. regulatory setback related to the approval of a new insulin product, Tresiba. Thursday, March 14, 5:48 PM The FDA is reviewing data on a certain class of diabetes drugs which it says might lead to precancerous changes in the pancreas. The drugs may include Eli Lilly's (LLY) Tradjenta, Merck's (MRK) Januvia, Novo Nordisk's (NVO) Victoza, and Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY) Byetta. Labels on the drugs already warn of increased potential for pancreatitis, which is the inflamation of the pancreas. Tuesday, February 26, 9:51 AM Merck's (MRK +0.2%) and Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY +0.7%) multi-billion dollar diabetes drugs could double the risks of patients developing pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas, a study indicates. Merck's Januvia and Bristol-Myers' Byetta increase GLP-1, a hormone that stimulates the pancreas' insulin output. Other drugs that do the same but weren't in study include Bristol's Onglyza and Novo Nordisk's (NVO) Victoza. Comment! [Healthcare]

Monday, February 11, 8:06 AM Sanofi (SNY +3.9%) could be one beneficiaries of the FDA's rejection of two Novo Nordisk (NVO -13.3%) diabetes treatments, as the medicines were seen as a threat to the French company's Lantus, which is the top-selling insulin product in the U.S. Novo hopes to meet with the FDA this week over the decision and its request for more data on the heart risks. Monday, February 11, 4:59 AM Novo Nordisk (NVO) shares plunge 11.85% premarket after the FDA unexpectedly rejected the company's Tresiba long-acting insulin and a related product called Ryzodeg. The FDA requested more data from a dedicated cardiovascular outcomes trial, which Novo doesn't expect to be able to provide this year. Tresiba and Ryzodeg are approved in Europe and Japan, and are forecast to generate billions of dollars of sales - assuming U.S. approval.
