    cack211 -- very sorry about your loss. I indeed hope this, or something like it, is the breakthrough that so many are waiting for.

    Having said that, I don't think discussions of the therapeutic and commercial benefits of new medicines are mutually exclusive. If all the medicines waiting to be discovered were to have to wait for massive charitable donations alone before they were discovered, I daresay the wait would be a whole lot longer. The fact commercial interests can make big money from breakthrough medicines is no doubt an impetus for their discovery and development, and as such I think the discussion thereof is healthy and should be facilitated.     My husband passed away a few weeks ago after years of wasting away from the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Those who talk only about stock benefits and the business angle have never watched someone they love die a minute at a time, not understanding why they can't think, can't remember, can't concentrate. A drug that could potentially reverse some of that, and relieve the anguish for the patient and for the family - deserve to be the only story. The billions for Wyeth are nice, but how wonderful it will be for future patients to get some of their lives back! I would have given anything to have had this opportunity for my husband! Reply

    How is 90,000 people filing bankruptcy 1 in 100 households? That would suggest there are only 9 million households in the US whereas there are well over 100 million. Aren't you off more than an order of magnitude in your excitement? Reply

    90K bankruptcies x 12 months = 1,080,000,000, just about 1% a year, should have clarified the year part.

    your post would be more useful if you highlighted the fraction of cash flow that the expirations will have on an individual company basis. Just giving us drug names is nice, but practically useless.

    CAUTION: A just published study with dogs showed that removing their plaque still did not appreciably improve their mental performance.     97% of all Americans are NOT behind on their mortgage. All of this crap about 7,000 a day losing their homes is just hype. There are only about 1 million homes in foreclosure in the U.S. The recession will be mild. It is all hyped to scare people. Reply

    It's McDonnell Douglas (which hasn't existed in over a decade, mind you), not McDonald-Douglas.

    And 90,000 bankruptcies in a month is not 1 in 100 families; you'd have to annualize the number (and up it to about 95k) to make that a true statement.     Reply
