NYX vs. ETF Alternatives
Company Description
NYSE Euronext, a Delaware corporation, was organized on May 22, 2006 in anticipation of the combination of the businesses of NYSE Group, Inc., a Delaware corporation, and Euronext N.V., a company organized under the laws of the Netherlands. The combination was consummated on April 4, 2007. NYSE... More

- Thursday, December 20, 2012, 11:24 AM It took the market a few minutes to figure it out, but the ICE/NYSE deal puts a bulls eye on the back of the CME, now -3%. NYSE has tried and failed to challenge the Chicago derivatives operator, but ICE - which built a serious competitor to CME in what seems like the blink of an eye - has expertise the Big Board doesn't have. ICE -2.6%, NYX +31.5%. Comment! [Financials, On the Move]

Premarket gainers: ROMA +57%. NYX +40%. ELOQ +30%. RAD +16%. ILMN +9%. VVUS +8%. NDAQ +7%. ARRS +6%. ICE +6%. JBL +5%.
Losers: FOLD -44%. MDRX -16%. OSIR -10%. NBG -5%. BBBY -5%. 2 Comments [On the Move] - Thursday, December 20, 2012, 8:43 AM More on the ICE/NYSE hookup: Following the purchase, ICE plans to try and spin off Euronext - NYX's European stock exchange operation. The "crown jewel" of this deal is NYX's European derivatives operation - the Liffe, and ICE just paid a lot to get it. CME Group +0.2% premarket. ICE -4.1% premarket, but has been halted since 90 minutes before the official announcement. NYX remains halted. Comment! [Financials, On the Move]
- Thursday, December 20, 2012, 8:32 AM IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) agrees to buy NYSE Euronext for a whopping $33.12/share, or about $8.2B, with a mixture of stock and cash. The price represents a 37.7% premium to NYX's closing price yesterday. NYSE shareholders will own about 36% of ICE after the sale. (PR) Comment! [Breaking News, M&A, Financials, Top Stories]
- Thursday, December 20, 2012, 7:54 AM Look for ICE to maybe sell of NYSE Euornext's (NYX) stock exchanges should it acquire (news pending) the company, say analysts. The reported bid seems all about acquiring the Liffe, thus allowing ICE to compete in the European derivatives arena with rival CME Group. Comment! [Financials, M&A]
- Thursday, December 20, 2012, 7:30 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX) and IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) shares are halted from premarket trade with news pending. Last night, it was reported the acquisition of the NYSE by the ICE was imminent. NYX gained 21% AH. ICE -4% premarket. 1 Comment [Financials, M&A, Breaking News]
- Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 7:23 PM IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) is back in talks with NYSE Euronext (NYX) and could announce a full takeover of the Big Board as soon as tomorrow, multiple sources are reporting. ICE (worth about $9.3B) was part of a combined bid with Nasdaq OMX (NDAQ) for NYX (worth about $5.8B) last year that came apart under antitrust scrutiny; this deal would likely be a mix of stock and cash. NYX +12.3% AH; ICE +2.9%. 1 Comment [Financials, M&A, Breaking News, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 5:13 AM The SEC is widening an investigation into stock exchanges, particularly in relation to order types. These enable investors to control how their buy and sell orders are treated, and can benefit high-speed traders. The concern is that some firms receive more information than others about how a bourse's system operates, giving them an unfair advantage. 3 Comments [Financials]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 6:54 PM In an effort to rachet up the pressure on wholesalers and win back market share from off-exchange venues, Nasdaq OMX (NDAQ) plans to offer retail investors a discount on orders, starting in early 2013. Nasdaq program would be similar to the program launched by NYSE Euronext (NYX) in August, which discounts stock orders by fractions of a penny. 1 Comment [Financials]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 10:02 AM NYSE Euronext, Inc. (NYX) declares $0.3/share quarterly dividend, in line with previous. For shareholders of record Dec. 14. Payable Dec. 28. Ex-div Dec. 12. (PR) Comment! [Dividends]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 6:02 AM More on NYSE Euronext (NYX) Q3 results: Net profit -42% to $108M, with earnings hurt by lower trading volumes and a $20M loss on forex fluctuations. Declares Q4 cash dividend of $0.30/share. Shares +1.2% in Paris. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Financials, Dividends]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 5:58 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX): Q3 EPS of $0.44 misses by $0.08. Revenue of $559M (-20.6% Y/Y) misses by $52M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Financials]

- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 6:15 PM Update on market plans: Stock, bond and derivatives markets will open as normal Wednesday. NYSE (NYX) reports its "building and systems" are undamaged - and a solid opening there will be vital to other electronic systems. The combination of month's end and pent-up trading demand promises a hectic day - and looking further out, maybe a jolt from complacency. (El-Erian: What to expect) 2 Comments [Financials, U.S. Economy]
- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 11:11 AM The NYSE (NYX) says it's currently expecting to open Wednesday, critical because of its role in providing key opening and closing auctions on the last day of the month. The goal: a normal 9:30-4:00 trading session. The exchange, along with Nasdaq OMX (NDAQ), BATS and Direct Edge, continues to test a backup solution that would route trading through the Arca platform if the floor can't open. 8 Comments [Financials, U.S. Economy]
