- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 3:53 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX) prepares to implement a contingency plan this morning as its looks to resume some sort of trading despite Hurricane Sandy. NYSE intends to offer companies the ability to test opening and closing auctions on its Arca electronic exchange from 8-12 ET. Nasdaq (NDAQ) plans to operate its production system in a testing capacity from 7:30-12. 6 Comments [U.S. Economy, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 12:32 PM NYSE Euronext (NYX -1.2%) is losing Patrick Briley, the chief commercial officer at its new London clearinghouse after just 3 months on the job. It's the latest in a line of departures as the exchange operator restructures following its failed merger with Deutsche Boerse. 1 Comment [Financials]
- Friday, September 14, 2012, 12:24 PM NYSE Euronext (NYX) will pay a $5M (not a typo) penalty to the SEC to settle charges technology issues at the exchange gave high-frequency traders stock-price data seconds ahead of the general public. Those who remember the 2010 "flash crash" recall waiting several seconds for updated price quotes. No worry - the HFT boys had the info in milliseconds. 2 Comments [Financials]
- Friday, August 24, 2012, 7:44 AM CME Group's plans for a U.K. exchange go beyond just currencies as it also hopes to establish interest rate trading there. That would obviously be direct competition to Liffe (NYX), and its slate of gilts, short-sterling, and Euribor futures (editor: from ease of use of websites, CME wins). 1 Comment [Financials]
- Sunday, August 19, 2012, 9:24 PM With ZIRP as far as the eye can see causing volume to fade in its once-mighty Eurodollar contract, CME Group looks for growth overseas, planning to launch a European exchange to compete with ones run by Euronext (NYX) and Deutsche Boerse. CME will submit plans to U.K. regulators "within days," say sources. Comment! [Financials]
- Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 4:24 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX) is in discussions with the SEC over accusations it breached a rule that bans an exchange from disseminating data on a private data feed more quickly than on public feeds. NYSE Euronext doesn't expect any settlement to be material. The negotiations come as the SEC is increasing its scrutiny on the effect of high-speed trading on markets, for which these information feeds are crucial. Comment! [Financials]
- Friday, August 3, 2012, 9:57 AM "Nobody rational would look at this (market) and say it isn't broken," says NYSE (NYX +1.8%) CEO Duncan Neiderauer on the earnings call, talking about the Knight Capital incident. "Speed is not always better." He says the exchange strictly followed rules in cancelling erroneous trades in 6 of the affected 150 stocks. Comment! [Financials]
- Friday, August 3, 2012, 3:57 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX): Q2 EPS of $0.51 beats by $0.01. Revenue of $602M (-9% Y/Y) misses by $4.3M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Financials]
- Friday, August 3, 2012, 12:05 AM Notable earnings before Friday’s open: BPL, BPO, BZH, ELT, HNT, IMGN, ITT, NVAX, NYX, PG, WCG, WCRX, YRCW Comment! [Earnings]
- Thursday, August 2, 2012, 5:30 PM Notable earnings before Friday’s open: BPL, BPO, BZH, ELT, HNT, IMGN, ITT, NVAX, NYX, PG, WCG, WCRX, YRCW Comment! [Earnings]
- Friday, July 6, 2012, 8:17 AM The NYSE (NYX) is set to begin offering retail investors stock quotes in increments of less than one penny, reports the WSJ. The move is expected to help to exchange compete with banks and electronic-trading firms edging into its business. Comment! [Financials]
- Monday, July 2, 2012, 9:13 AM Relations between Facebook (FB) and the NASDAQ (NDAQ) remain frosty six weeks after the former's problem-filled IPO, which led to a flurry of class-action suits. Facebook execs continue to blame the NASDAQ for the IPO's trade-execution issues, sources tell the NYT, and is still considering switching to the NYSE (NYX). A conference call in which NASDAQ CEO Robert Greifeld claimed the execution issues didn't affect Facebook's stock price don't seem to be helping. 2 Comments [Tech, Financials]
- Monday, July 2, 2012, 8:05 AM The NYSE (NYX) prevented an erroneous trade worth $17M on Friday, when a programming glitch caused a dealer to put in an order for Monster Worldwide shares rather than the Monster Beverage stock he or she wanted to buy. The trade, which was spotted by eagle-eyed staff, demonstrates the difference between fully electronic exchanges and Big Board's hybrid model in human monitoring is also used. 1 Comment [Financials]
- Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 10:13 AM NYSE Euronext (NYX) launches an exchange in London as it looks to challenge the LSE in its own back yard. Groupe Eurotunnel (GRPTF.PK) becomes NYSE Euronext London's first listing, which is all very nice except that trading in the stock on the LSE has been almost dead. The other problem is that the IPO market is hurting badly. Comment! [Financials]
- Monday, June 18, 2012, 9:53 AM Deutsche Boerse (DBOEY.PK) last week asked an EU court to quash the European Commission's ban on the exchange's $9.5B merger with NYSE Euronext (NYX), arguing that regulators made errors when deciding to block the deal. If the tribunal backs Deutsche Boerse's claims, it can overturn the regulator's ruling or ask for a reassessment. Comment! [M&A, Financials]
- Thursday, June 7, 2012, 11:34 AM Nasdaq OMX's (NDAQ) rivals slam the exchange's plans to compensate financial firms for Facebook's bungled trading debut. Direct Edge CEO William O'Brien says that Nasdaq's proposal to discount trading fees seems "illegal," and that his firm will "vigorously object." BATS Chi-X Europe calls the scheme "a bad way to do it," while NYSE (NYX) is also unhappy. Comment! [Financials]
