how about that OMG recommendation? What would be its book value now? ReplyOM Group: Worth the Wait for Patient Investors [view article]
My frustration with OMG is the lack of information. The company remains silent. Trying to get a real time response from the company is difficult. ReplyCrunch

Interesting to note a large insider purchase in Titanium Metals Corporation (TIE) on 15th September. I've recently bought some myself.Credit Crunch Invester Reply

OMG is a very nice cobalt play. I am more bullish in cobalt than silver and I actually suggested people buy physical cobalt as a better silver. Read my past articles on cobalt:seekingalpha.com/autho...

Maelstrom: Your note about man made gems is mostly correct, but this is no longer the case in diamonds. Commerical use synthethic diamond has been around for decades, but until recently, there have been tech difficulties in producing gem quality diamonds and diamond transistors, which are considered the "ultimate" silicon chip. There are now two inexpensive methods that can create synthetic diamonds, and the method used by Apollo can produce diamonds of almost any size, and so far, the only known difference is that the synthetic diamonds are virtually flawless compared to natural diamonds. Further, using derivatives of this technology, it now appears they have created a true diamond transistor inexpensively. I think Mark is right on this, I'm particularly interested in North American Palladium(PAL), it has been beaten down in the past few days to all time lows, while this false dollar rally has been going on. The rally in the dollar is an irrational reaction to the recent financial bailouts(nationalizati... along with hope that the worst is behind, but this false rally only hurts the US economy more in the long run.Fundamentals are still fundamentals and the dollar's recent strength is only a bump on the long slide down, and commodities are bound to rise as the dollar falls. Palladium and Palladium stocks are at a low right now, and my data shows PAL as being largely oversold. Foreign Markets will be in a much better position than the US markets by comparison and should keep up demand.
N.American Palladium just announced a new CEO, so I believe timid investors will keep the price low for a few more days, during which time, I 'll be loading up shares while they are still cheap.
I'm also going to be looking back into oil again in coming months as the price comes back down, I'm thinking by next summer we could be definitely seeing another run at a new high. Reply

Mark always enjoy your articles, many salient points. The De Beers referal is spot on except when you veered off to the man made diamonds and the effect you believe they will have. This is an area of some knowledge for me won't go into a long pedantic but man made gems always make a bit if a splash then the value drops like a rock. And GE has been mfgr synthetic diamonds since late 50's DeBeers has been involved in this indeavor for at least 25years. Most have been used for Industrial (abrasive, cutting) applications ReplyCommodity Roundup: What To Be Bullish On Now [view article]
Of course now in these years stocks and bonds are not that attractive it was logical to expect a hefty upswing in the commodities and food markets. The run up has been crazy and beyond belief. Now we only observe a correction on that detail.
Ok ok gold and silver markets are taken down so severe that the relation with supply and demand is broken down completely.
The good thing is: Now we know that it are the futures that drive the market (read: there is still too much money into the system).
So the next time Treasury clown Paulson states the opposite we can start throwing rocks at him...

As vicious and relentless as recent sell-offs have been, there has been absolutely no fundamental change in the multi-year commodities boom and dollar bearishness.**********************...
You don't see the turnaround in th US dollar as a fundamental change???? Dollar bearishess is now dollar bullishness, and that changes everything for commodities. Reply

Oil demand is going to be further curtailed due to the large number of refiners shut down by Ike. We will likely see the price of oil drop. But we will enter the high demand winter quarter with low inventories of heating oil and gasoline. Natural gas injections have been cut in half by Gustav and will remain shut in for some time. So we enter the winter season with storage near the 5 year avg and 200 bcf below last year. The MMS publishes a weekly report on shut in production. www.mms.gov/ooc/press/... Where does the Chinese shut down for the olympics fit in this ? The special olympics closes down this week and they should be restarting their factories. Wont that mean a run up in oil and other commodities?Cesato, I hope you are right and gold stays in the 650 to 750 range for a few months. I have money (well, dollars, they are sort of like money) locked up that I want to turn into gold. Reply

everytime PAL is under 4 it has rewarded me. added more recently. they stuck GFI with the Finland mine, makes sense to me, own GFI too, they can tuck that asset away or develop it if Russian output dries up or becomes embargoed.read PAL Annual Report, good little company for sure. Also own SWC, ZINC,CDE, NXG. Love these little safe country gems.
NXG just added MORE reserves in AUS, blah blah blah.
Just a lot of shorting going on now, Gold is STILL around 750, Copper $3.15 or so. Indian and Chinese will add to their personal holdings as consumers who know the Dollar is becoming worthless with all the bailouts. BUY! Reply
