- Friday, August 26, 2011, 1:25 PM Tech stocks are a source of leadership today, as the sector has the Nasdaq well in front of its counterparts, +2.3% and on pace for a 5.5% weekly gain. ARUN +20.8% and P +6.4% are jumping after upbeat earnings; RIMM +3.1% and VMW +4.9% move on research upgrades. Stalwarts MSFT +2.8%, INTC +2.1% and CSCO +2% are among the Dow's leaders. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, August 26, 2011, 10:39 AM As Pandora (P +6.3%) moves higher following its FQ2 results, Wells Fargo is reiterating an Outperform and target range of $21-$23. The firm thinks Pandora is in the early stages of improving the monetization of its audio content, and believes shares will rebound as the market realizes new competition isn't hindering growth. Premarket gainers: ARUN +8%. P +6%. TIF +5%.
Losers: OVTI -26%. CLWR -9%. NBG -4%. LYG -3%. STD -3%. ING -3%. Comment! [On the Move] - Thursday, August 25, 2011, 5:43 PM Pandora (P) claims mobile devices now account for 70% of its streaming, and that it hasn't seen any impact from Spotify's growth. It may be that Spotify's U.S. launch is too recent to seriously affect Pandora just yet, but it could also be many Spotify subscribers are opting for its $5/month service, which doesn't include mobile streaming. P +3.5% AH. (previously) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Thursday, August 25, 2011, 4:27 PM More on Pandora's (P) FQ2 results: Free cash flow for 1H 2011 was slightly positive. Total listener hours grew 125% Y/Y in FQ2 to 1.8B, leading Pandora's estimated share of U.S. radio listening to double to 3.6%. Mobile advertising now accounts for roughly half of the company's total ad revenue. P now +5.8% AH. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 25, 2011, 4:14 PM Pandora Media (P): Q2 EPS of $0.02 beats by $0.05. Revenue of $67M (+118% Y/Y) beats by $7M. Expects FQ3 Revenue of $69.5M-$72.5M vs. the consensus of $68.2M, EPS of $(0.02)-$(0.00) vs. the consensus of $(0.01). Expects FY12 Revenue of $270M-$275M, EPS of $(0.05)-$(0.07). Shares +16.3 % AH. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Tech]
- Thursday, August 25, 2011, 12:56 PM If Pandora (P -5.1%) is the canary in the coal mine for tech IPOs, upstarts may not like what they see. Shares are off 33% since the firm's debut, foundering well-before the Aug. market swoon. 4 tech IPOs have been delayed in the last 3 weeks - a number Renaissance Capital says could go higher and even ensnare hotshots Groupon (GRPN) and Zynga. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 25, 2011, 12:10 AM Notable earnings after Thursday's close: ARUN, OVTI, P Comment! [Earnings]
- Wednesday, August 24, 2011, 3:25 PM With Pandora (P) down roughly 25% from its $16 IPO price, J.P. Morgan and Citi are reiterating bullish ratings on the company ahead of tomorrow's FQ2 earnings report. J.P. Morgan expects Pandora to beat consensus forecasts, and thinks the company may have added 3M users during the quarter. Comment! [Tech, Quick Ideas]
- Monday, August 22, 2011, 4:02 PM Shares of Pandora (P -6.2%) recover a bit after being down 10% in early afternoon trading. Competitors to the firm's online music service seem to continue to emerge every week, while rival Spotify is reported to have already added 1.5M paying subscibers after its recent launch in the U.S. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 1:03 PM Pandora (P +3.2%) says on its corporate blog that a new version of Pandora.com is available for Pandora One subscribers with new enhanced features. Investors looking for a return of shares to the post-IPO day one price of 26 will likely be banking on Pandora 2.0 converting ad-supported freebies to paying customers. Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, August 12, 2011, 3:40 PM Research firm Ovano estimates 3.4% of U.S. iPhone users have installed Spotify's app for the device, a higher rate than for some European countries where Spotify has long been available. Though many of these users are likely using Spotify's free service, which doesn't support mobile streaming, Pandora (P) can't be pleased to see such quick uptake. Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, August 12, 2011, 1:02 PM Pandora (P +3.7%) shares are rebounding a bit today but are well below their $16/share IPO price. Rich Greenfield, who told investors to stay away from the IPO, hasn't changed his tune, citing several factors, including new or improved digital music offerings from competitors Clear Channel (CCO), Spotify and Sirius (SIRI). 1 Comment [Tech]
- Monday, August 8, 2011, 2:55 PM Spotify is off to a strong start, with a source telling All Things D the company has signed 1.4M U.S. users for its free service, and 175K for its subscription service. Pandora (P) has to be a little nervous about Spotify's growth, and to the extent its users stop relying on iTunes as their primary PC music software, so does Apple (AAPL). (previously) Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, August 4, 2011, 3:12 PM Pandora (P +3.1%) is still positive thanks to Merrill Lynch's Nat Schindler launching coverage with a Buy rating and $17 PT. With 60% of Pandora listening now on mobile devices, Schindler sees the company as a play on mobile Internet growth, and believes revenues will surge as it streams more audio ads. Comment! [Tech, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Monday, August 1, 2011, 8:58 AM Fund manager Craig Hodges (HDPMX) thinks Sirius XM (SIRI) shares could quadruple to $8. Hodges likes the economies of scale built into built into the company's business model, and doesn't believe online streaming services such as Pandora (P) are a major threat. Sirius XM reports earnings tomorrow. 1 Comment [Tech, Quick Ideas]
