- Thursday, March 7, 7:08 PM "We've turned the corner on mobile monetization," boasted CEO Joe Kennedy on Pandora's (P) FQ4 call, even as he remained vague about the reasons for his planned departure. In spite of the boast, Pandora's mobile ad revenue per thousand hours (RPM) fell 8% Q/Q to $23.51, and was 56% below a PC ad RPM of $53.53, which itself was down 8% Q/Q. Pandora attributes the latter drop to a greater sales focus on mobile. Pandora's share of U.S. radio listening hit 8.48% in February, up from 8.03% in January and 5.74% a year ago. P +21.3% AH. - Wednesday, February 20, 10:33 AM Millennial Media (MM -34.7%) is falling apart in response to its Q4 revenue miss and light guidance. On the earnings call, Millennial blamed the Q4 shortfall on a decision not to participate in certain low-end, performance-based, ad campaigns (often tied to app downloads), and the failure of some brand ad deals to materialize. No explanation is given for the guidance beyond seasonality. The comments are bound to raise concerns about competition. Ad prices rose 10.3% Q/Q, and Millennial has confirmed its purchase of ad targeting platform Metaresolver. P -3.8%. VELT -2.4%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 4:19 PM More on Pandora: FQ4 guidance is for revenue of $120M-$123M and EPS of -$0.06 to -$0.09, below a consensus of $130.3M and $0.02. No explanation is given. FQ3 mobile revenue was $73.9M, +25% Q/Q and +112% Y/Y. Active listeners rose by 4.3M Q/Q to 59.2M. Listener hours +67% Y/Y and content costs +75%, exceeding revenue growth of 60%. Mobile 62% of revenue vs. over 3/4 of listening time. P -21.9% AH. CC at 5PM ET (webcast), expect questions about the gap between mobile and PC ad rates to figure prominently.
