WoW! $19 down to $3 in a year...ouch!I'd wait for the trend to turn up solidly. There are a lot people holding that stock and gritting their teeth because of the huge loss they took. The first solid rise in price will likely trigger a round of "get some of my money back" selling. Reply

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyTime to Load Up on Beaten Down Parlux Fragrances [view article]
Last I heard the income tax hasn't yet been abolished yet you assume none on the hypothetical sale of its assets. ReplyTime to Load Up on Beaten Down Parlux Fragrances [view article]
Are you not the guy that just trashed TMY with one of your "Seeking Alpha" articles? In that article you stated (You Opinion) that the deal with Lorrie and the company had less than a 10% chance of being financed. Well how do you feel now that the company conference call from Monday (1/14) just blew your theory right out your backside? Based on those projections what gives you the right to make assumptions on ANY other stock and have any credibility at all. If you want my honest opinion (and I am sure you do not) you should write under a new headline called "Seeking the TRUTH"! You were so wishy washy with TMY I doubt that anyone will read your articles much less believe them. I know I will not! Very amusing amended 13D filing after the close on Friday by the company CEO, Ilia Lekach, who accuses an unnamed "financial institution" of absconding with his shares. The amended filing has rather different share counts than the original one, as well.Watch out for fireworks on this one next week! Reply
My Parlux Fragrances Adventure: A Painful Investing Lesson [view article]
First, did you not look at the cash flow statement showing negative cash from ops and investing, and cash inflow from financing? Bad signs.Second, never catch a falling knife. Just look at the chart, is it falling? Don't buy. Wait until it stops falling, then buy. Don't catch falling knives, let them hit the ground, then bounce, then settle - then buy.
Third, you are probably leaving the stock at the absolute worst time. NOW is the time to buy, not then. That is, if you think it's a good value ... Reply
Will Glenn Nussdorf Wrestle Away Parlux Fragrances From CEO Ilia Leckach? [view article]
A few things are off:1. Ilia Lekach probably still owns a bunch of PARL stock. The count in that filing is only his <em>personal<... holdings, but his wife, and other entities he controls, also own stock.
2. It's PARL that has been getting rid of ECMV stock, not the other way around. The prices in the filing are consistent with the prices on that trading day, and it's impossible to speculate on who the buyer might have been.
The bottom line is that this is a very decent company indeed, with a solid balance sheet and very good returns on capital. The problem is the convoluted nature of related party dealings and the opaqueness of management. But it's certainly trading (at around $5) below break-up value. I plan on attending the shareholder's meeting on Oct 13 to see what else I can find out. Reply

All excellent comments. Doing due diligence not only on the company but also on management is critical before initiating an investment. For special situations like take privates it's also important to consider the viability of a proposed deal in terms of financing. The CEO wanted to take the co private at $29 per share when I believe it was trading at $18 or so? Lenders, even in a strong credit market, would probably have said they could lend to support the deal but that the CEO would have to put in a big chunk of equity to support such a high price.I would sell PARL immediately if I were you, I have no position in the stock but that's just $x grand typing up your capital. Understanding the power of compounding is the key aspect, you lose 1/3 of your investment and you'll need a bit over 50% to make up for it so if you're down 60+%, just dump it. It's mentally draining to just have that bagel in your account too, especially if you have no conviction in the position or didn't buy it as a core investment. It doesn't sound like you have any conviction in the company and you bought it as a special situation. I'd suggest putting in a stop loss on situations like this going forward too if you don't really want to own the company.
This only comes from my own experience on riding down big losers, you're not only wasting time trying to recover your cost basis but you're going against inflation too. In today's market the hurdle is 5% you can get in an online bank account so what's the point in hanging around waiting for PARL to quadruple, that stuff rarely happens to companies with problems like PARL has because the accounting issues it currently faces always take longer to resolve than initiallty anticipated and worse news basically continues to follow basically bleeding your long positions dry.
