Do some managers consistently buy shares for more than they are worth? If so, do they make money in the long term? Reply

valueinvestor123 & Jake2 - please visit my blog and read a few posts before making such statements.

Fox - I simply picked 10 funds that have historically been considered value investors - and I define that as buying something for less than it is worth.

User 164258 - you are correct and the glitch is fixed on my blog. . .

I guess I am dumb like you. I think seeing what some pretty bright people are buying and selling is a pretty good place to get ideas to do my own research. It also provides a good benchmark to compare to my own portfolio.

You should do some further research on whether Buffett sold COP. I saw another post that he, in fact, got an expemption from the SEC to not report is position in that stock. Therefore, it simply droppped from the list and not sold. Given that COP is pretty cheap compared to the rest and that he and Gates were up in Canada looking at oil sands, it seems unlikely that he just punched out of this position in one quarter

I don't see much "value" in this kind of blanket value listing. Would prefer something more akin to e-valu-ating individual stocks, industries, etc., rather than, "Wither the hedge herd, mate?". Reply

I would like to know how you define "value" in the context that you are using it. I see one of the funds you mention has a position in First Solar. Reply

I agree with helsi. The last seven months for RDN was looking pretty bad, but all it took was a little legislation to be passed for it to soar. This stock deserves to be on the other chart now. Who would have guessed an 80 cent stock would hit $5 in such a short time period?! Timing is everything. Reply

Nice article, but more informative would be using the same criteria for the last 6 - 7 weeks. Reply

I'm a little confused as to your post, RUFcrazy. Are you saying that future predictions are being ultra concervative and PCX will do much better than they let on?

Sorry, just getting into stocks and still learning

Banks and Broker firms wrapped toxic waste i.e.: subprime, credit card debt, car loans, etc. into structured finance vehicles i.e.: CDO-ABS-MBS-SIVs and misled the market into buying them and bond insurers into insure them and now they have to clear their books from this toxic waste which is going to take time quarter after quarter but without a doubt will improve their book value. How long do you think before the discussion on windfall profit taxes shifts from oil to coal on Capitol Hill--given their growing profitability?

As Coal Skyrockets, Analysts Are Late to the Party [view article]
Having read several of Stockaccumulater's articals I am just amazed at the quanities of stocks he presumably buys . Case in point, 6/4/08 he presumes to buy 20,000 shrs of PBR @ $65.40 for an investment of 1,308,000 dlrs. Today 8/1/08 two months later the stock is worth $54.69 or 1,093,800.00 for a loss of 214,200.00 in just forty three trading days.OH ,AND BY THE WAY THESE WERE JUST BEING ADDED TO AN EXISTING LOT HE ALREADY SUPPOSEDLEY OWNED. My question is , if he is such a big lot trader,Why is he posting on these boards and feeeding his ego, or is he really superman in disguise. any thoughts ------Anyone??? Reply
