- Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 6:30 PM Coca-Cola's (KO) bid to subsume its biggest bottler, which comes in the wake of a similar move by PepsiCo (PEP), likely has a similar goal: more say in developing, distributing and marketing products as tastes move away from soda and into niche drinks. It would reverse longtime Coke strategy focus on independent bottling. 1 Comment
- Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 1:50 PM Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) shareholders easily approve a merger with PepsiCo (PEP) - which consolidates PepsiCo's control over North American sales, and could put some pressure on Coca-Cola (KO) for a similar move. (previously) Comment!
- Thursday, February 11, 2010, 8:21 AM Pepsico (PEP): Q4 EPS of $0.90 misses by $0.01. Revenue of $13.3B (+4.5%) vs. $13.2B. Shares -1% premarket. (PR) Comment!
- Thursday, February 11, 2010, 12:05 AM Notable earnings before Thursday's open: ALU, AN, BWA, ECA, ECL, EXPE, FLIR, LH, MAC, MAR, NRG, OHI, PEP, PGN, PLD, PTEN, TDC, VIA.B Comment!
- Friday, January 22, 2010, 7:44 AM Coca-Cola (KO) is reportedly in talks to buy a controlling stake in Russian juice maker Nidan Soki from private equity group Lion Capital. If a deal goes through, Coke will overtake rival PepsiCo (PEP), which is the leader in the Russian juice market. Comment!
- Friday, January 8, 2010, 3:12 PM All's quiet on the equities front after hours of sideways trading. The biggest drag on stocks today is in consumer goods: KO -2.3%; PEP -0.6%; CL -2.1%. In the session's final hour, the Dow -0.2% to 10,583; S&P 500 flat at 1,142; Nasdaq +0.6% to 2,313. Crude flat just under $83. Gold +0.3%. Comment!
- Monday, December 28, 2009, 3:13 PM The cost of Tiger Wood's fender bender to his corporate sponsors? $12B, according to a new study. The study focused on nine publicly-traded sponsors: Accenture (ACN); Amex (AXP); AT&T (T); Tiger Woods Golf (ERTS); Gillette (PG); Nike (NKE); Gatorade (PEP); TLC Laser Eye Centers; and Golf Digest (NWS). "(The) pattern of losses is unlikely to stem from ordinary day-to-day variation in their stock prices," researchers write. 2 Comments
- Thursday, December 10, 2009, 8:23 AM Sources say Gillette (PG) may renegotiate its corporate sponsorship of Tiger Woods. On Tuesday, Gatorade (PEP) dropped the golfer despite intense lobbying from his agent. Contrary to reports that the break was strictly about poor sales, a company insider says Gatorade seized on the scandal to break from a deal that had already gone bad. Nike (NKE) is said to be backing Tiger, but his deal with Accenture (ACN) is also thought to be on shaky ground. Comment!
- Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 4:49 PM Big changes at Tiger Woods Inc. after reports of extramarital affairs: Marketers have pulled all ads related to the golfer from prime-time TV, which touches a number of affiliated brands (ACN, AXP, ERTS, NKE, PEP). Gatorade (PEP) has discontinued its "Tiger Focus" sub-line - though that plan was in place before Woods' Nov. 27 car accident. Comment!
- Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 4:08 PM Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) up 3.6% AH as it seals a deal to let Pepsi (PEP) distribute some of its brands; Dr Pepper Snapple will get a $900M payment. (PR) Comment!
- Monday, December 7, 2009, 2:47 PM From our live discussion on dividend investing: Chuck Carnevale likes names with yields around 3% that can double every three to five years - like MCD in restaurants, PG in consumer staples, and ADP, PEP, SYY. Join now to submit comments and questions. Comment!
- Sunday, November 29, 2009, 2:19 PM Barron's thinks Pepsico (PEP) is cheap at just 15x 2010 earnings, near the bottom of its 10-year range and at a discout to rivals like Coca-Cola (KO) which command a multiple of 17. Noted fund-manager Mario Gabelli thinks shares could trade 50-60% higher in coming years, which, "with the dividend, gives you a pretty good return." 4 Comments
- Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 6:19 PM Postage due? A Wisconsin judge has ordered PepsiCo (PEP) to pay $1.26B to two men - who sued claiming the company stole their 1981 idea to sell purified water - after a secretary mislaid a letter this spring alerting the company to the suit's existence. The amount equals more than 20% of PepsiCo's annual profits. Comment!
- Tuesday, October 27, 2009, 10:53 AM PepsiCo (PEP +0.6%) receives the EC's blessings for its $7.8B deal to buy Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG +0.4%), despite some overlap in their businesses. "The proposed transaction would not significantly change the market structure. Consequently, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns," it said. Comment!
- Thursday, October 8, 2009, 7:16 AM PepsiCo (PEP): Q3 EPS of $1.08 beats by $0.05. Revenue of $11.08B (-1.5%) vs. $11.25B. Shares (PR) Comment!
- Thursday, October 8, 2009, 12:05 AM Notable earnings before Thursday's open: MAR, PEP Comment!
