    A Pfizer (PFE) unit will suspend U.S. sales of animal drug 3-Nitro, the FDA says after requesting a halt related to its study of inorganic arsenic in broiler chickens. The agency said the levels were still low and sees no public health risk from eating the chicken.

    Pfizer (PFE) is looking for an extra $1B in yearly cost cuts on top of the cuts to research and development it was already making, WSJ reports. The goal at the world's largest drug maker is to cut expenses by $500M this year and $1B in 2012, mostly from the company’s administrative side.

    Pfizer (PFE) - mulling whether to move emerging-markets drug work into a standalone business - plans a joint venture in China with Zhejiang Hisun, to work on making and marketing branded generic drugs there. Branded generics are 60% of a pharma market expected to be the second-largest in just a few years.

    A Phase 3 trial for Pfizer's (PFE) kidney cancer treatment axitinib shows the treatment can delay progression of the disease by 6.7 months in previously treated patients, two months longer than a drug from Bayer (BAYRY.PK) and Onyx (ONXX). (PR)

    Pfizer (PFE) said yesterday that it's spending $772M to resolve claims that hormone-replacement treatments made by its Wyeth unit caused breast cancer. The company has so far recorded charges of $472M for about one-third of lawsuits it has faced.

    Nasdaq (NDAQ) and NYSE Arca (NYX) canceled bad after-hour trades in over 50 stocks, including in Pfizer (PFE) and Merck (MRK). A source said the trades, which were mostly in healthcare stocks, were made in a purchase of an entire portfolio of shares that were sold together, as in a basket.

    Pfizer (PFE -3.4%) is the Dow's biggest loser amid reports that four patients died in a key clinical trial involving its rheumatoid arthritis drug Tofacitinib. Pfizer has viewed the drug as a potential alternative to a drug made by Abbott Laboratories (ABT +2.1%).
