- Friday, May 10, 8:12 AM Pain Therapeutics (PTIE) craters 45.5% in premarket trading after Pfizer (PFE) says it is "considering its options" on Remoxy and may not respond to the FDA's complete response letter anytime in the next two years. PTIE sub-licensed Remoxy's commercialization rights to PFE subsidiary King Pharma (I, II). Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, May 10, 7:46 AM Pfizer (PFE) updates Durect (DRRX) on Remoxy, saying that it's "considering its options", and that if it elects to continue development of Remoxy, "we would not expect to submit a response to the "complete response" letter before mid-2015." (PR) This is less positive than expected by SA author Jason Napodano; shares are -12.6% premarket. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move, Breaking News]
- Monday, May 6, 1:36 PM Merck (MRK -1.3%) gets no love today from the FDA's approval of Liptruxet late Friday, as the stock is likely dragged down with the rest of the big pharma names on the back of a CNBC report that criticizes their earnings so far. The article points to the fact that pharmaceutical companies have seen a 4.7% contraction in earnings, and a 3.2% drop in revenue this quarter. Why? Morningstar's Damien Cover says there are two primary reasons: FX impact, especially from the yen, and intensified generic competition from patent losses. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, May 6, 9:38 AM More on Pfizer (PFE -0.5%): A plan by the company to sell Viagra online is motivated by the estimated hundreds of millions of dollars it loses to counterfeit versions of the drug found online. A ticking clock for patent expiration (2020) in the U.S. could also be a factor. To attract new customers, Pfizer will reportedly become more promotional with Viagra by offering three free pills with the first order and then 30% off order number two. 3 Comments [Healthcare]
- Monday, May 6, 9:23 AM Pfizer (PFE) plans to start selling Viagra online, according to an AP report. The initiative could serve as a test run by Big Pharma over disrupting its current model to look at online distribution for treatments viewed as more embarrassing to buy in person. Drugstore operators (CVS, WAG, RAD) will be watching the development very carefully. PFE -0.1% premarket. 2 Comments [Healthcare, Consumer]
- Tuesday, April 30, 11:41 AM Pain Therapeutics (PTIE +19%) and Durect (DRRX +25.5%) both soar on the back of positive comments out of Pfizer's (PFE) conference call about Remoxy, an oxycodone capsule the pair have been developing. PTIE sub-licensed Remoxy's commercialization rights to King Pharmaceuticals, which is a subsidiary of PFE, and the pharma-giant noted in its call that it's had a productive meeting with the FDA last month regarding the drug. (PFE Conference Call Webcast) 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, April 30, 7:21 AM More on Pfizer (PFE) Q1 earnings: Sales fell 9% Y/Y - 8% operational, 1% unfavorable fx adjustment. Much of the operational decrease due to loss of exclusivity of Lipitor. Emerging markets revenue +6%. Adjusted cost of sales fell 7%. FY2013 revenue guidance reduced to $55.3B-$57.3B from $56.2B-$58.2B. Adjusted EPS of $2.14-$2.24 from $2.20-$2.30. About $8B in share repurchases YTD, "with significant additional capital expected to be allocated ... for the remainder of the year." Shares -2.2% premarket. Conference call at 10 ET. (PR) 4 Comments [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, April 30, 7:01 AM Pfizer (PFE): Q1 EPS of $0.54 misses by $0.01. Revenue of $13.5B misses by $0.6B. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Healthcare]

Other CHMP news: Pfizer's (PFE -1.1%) arthritis pill Xeljanz is rejected (appeal to come), Roche (RHHBY.OB +0.2%) and Curis' (CRIS +4.5%) Erivedge for basal cell carcinoma gets a recommendation, and Vivus' (VVUS +3.7%) ED drug Spedra gets a positive review. (See also: AVNR and CELG get thumbs up from EU regulators) 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 25, 7:20 PM The European Medicines Agency has recommended against approval of Pfizer's (PFE) new arthritis drug Xeljanz, which was approved by US FDA last year. Committee cites concerns about drug's efficacy and safety. ISI Group says the European component of Xeljanz represents 25% of sales, and failure to launch there would trim its EPS by up to 3% by 2017. Shares -2.5% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Global & FX, On the Move]

$PFE making another run to go over $30.00. Maybe they'll manage to stay up there this time - or have they hit the ceiling? - View all 3 replies
-
Joseph P. Porter: If they were to get some bad news it might help bring the price down a little bit, but I think last week was their down week. -

$PFE breaking out multi-year highs. Lots of investors jumped ship early on this one. It is getting close to oversold. how far does this run? - View all 6 replies

The Hammer: Broke above $30 nice. however the pure pharma business model is riskier than the nvs or jnj model more preferred. Hope it runs fast -
The Hammer: will lighten up into a nice spike from here. reinvested every div over something like 7 years or so.

Joseph P. Porter: From Bloomberg - it sounds as if the "correction" could become a Q2-long phenomenon, depending on earnings. They will have to pry $PFE out -
Joseph P. Porter: of my cold, dead hands. Q2 tends to be a bit iffy, anyway. Much pessimism out there right now because of soft job #'s and Europe.
