        <![CDATA[Provident Financial Services (PFS) reported earnings per share of $0.22 for the quarter ended June 30, 2007, compared to $0.22, for the quarter ended June 30, 2006.<!--more--> Earnings per share were $0.41 for the six months ended June 30, 2007, compared to basic and diluted earnings per share of $0.44 and $0.43, respectively, for the six months ended June 30, 2006.

<p>Net income for the three months ended June 30, 2007 totaled $13.6 million, an increase of $99,000, or 0.7%, compared to $13.5 million reported for the same period in 2006. Net income was $24.4 million for the six months ended June 30, 2007, a decrease of $2.9 million, or 10.6%, compared to $27.3 million for the same period in 2006.
