15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
Do some managers consistently buy shares for more than they are worth? If so, do they make money in the long term? Reply

valueinvestor123 & Jake2 - please visit my blog and read a few posts before making such statements.

Fox - I simply picked 10 funds that have historically been considered value investors - and I define that as buying something for less than it is worth.

User 164258 - you are correct and the glitch is fixed on my blog. . .

I guess I am dumb like you. I think seeing what some pretty bright people are buying and selling is a pretty good place to get ideas to do my own research. It also provides a good benchmark to compare to my own portfolio.

You should do some further research on whether Buffett sold COP. I saw another post that he, in fact, got an expemption from the SEC to not report is position in that stock. Therefore, it simply droppped from the list and not sold. Given that COP is pretty cheap compared to the rest and that he and Gates were up in Canada looking at oil sands, it seems unlikely that he just punched out of this position in one quarter

I don't see much "value" in this kind of blanket value listing. Would prefer something more akin to e-valu-ating individual stocks, industries, etc., rather than, "Wither the hedge herd, mate?". Reply

I would like to know how you define "value" in the context that you are using it. I see one of the funds you mention has a position in First Solar. Reply

Thanks for the feedback. The smaller companies mentioned by User 10755 are also considered "green" and have a role to play in sustainable, clean technologies. The same could be said for ECOL and CECE. As an investor though, the green sector is probably best approached through an ETF so we can get a variety of green companies Reply

What about a variety of small to micro-cap stocks that we'd consider Green companies such as:

CPST, SATC, HYGS, CPTC, ESLR, ZOLT, PWR, DAR...

Does any of these smaller companies qualify as sustainable, possibly on another level?

    Thank You

User is right -- we did extensive research on Chipotle, and although it's a stock and company we like, don't be deceived -- their food is really not that healthy. What is healthy is the way they treat the environment and from where they get their inputs... Reply

I hate to see anyone label Chopotle Burritos as "Healthy",no matter where their meat comes from! For a veggie burrito, with NO cheese or sour cream, but only black beans, rice, guacamole, and lettuce on a 13" burrito there are 25 grams of fat and over 2000mg of sodium, 87% of your RDA. More like deadly than healthy! Reply

Are First Solar's panels really the most efficient? I am certainly no expert on efficiency of solar panels, but I have read other articles that SPWR produces more efficient (but higher cost because of the cost of silicon) panels. Reply

Performance Update: 10 Solid Clean Energy Co's to Buy On the Cheap [view article]
There have been plenty of not so flattering comments on GE, e.g.-surely few of us are happy with the dilution of late. I do believe it is still a superlative long position choice. All the news seems to indicate that GE has fallen back to regroup, and is garnering numerous enormous, gargantuan sized contracts for a wide variety of basic services worldwide. GE and Siemens are going toe to toe in many areas...but GE will be a strong player in the next few years. If I had more disposable income, I'd buy much more of it, in spite of the poor returns of late. I would not give up on this energy company at all. Reply

The entire concept of comparison here just seems pointless and alsop poorly communicated. Much more helpful would be simply a presentation of those "clean energy " related companies which look to be approaching bargain levels NOW. Reply

Certainly you jest !!! I can easily recommend any stock listed anywhere (pink sheets included) and suggest you pick the bottom.

By definition, if it hits a bottom when you buy it, it has to show a gain after that.

Then I simply show how you would have done had you picked them with a 10% drop. This disquises itself as analysis !!!!!

Next time why not come up with a real position and stake something on it.
