Friday, October 26, 2012, 10:40 AM AppliedMicro (AMCC +26.9%) skies higher following it FQ2 report. Though results were ho-hum, the beaten-down telecom chipmaker guided on its earnings call for FQ3 revenue to rise 8%-12% Q/Q (consensus is for a 7% increase). It also announced a partnership with Red Hat (RHT) and ARM (ARMH) to develop server designs based on AppliedMicro's ARM CPUs. Evercore has added AppliedMicro to its Conviction Buy list, touting the company's backlog, share gains, and declining inventories. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, 11:20 AM Though it beat Q3 estimates, Altera (ALTR -6.8%) is diving thanks to guidance for a 6%-10% Q/Q drop in Q4 revenue - the Street had been expecting a slight increase. During its earnings call, Altera partly blamed the decision of a top customer to migrate two high-volume FPGA designs (4% of Q3 revenue) to ASICs, though it also admitted it's seeing broad-based weakness. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, 4:24 PM PMC-Sierra (PMCS +8.5%) soared in late trading thanks to a report the telecom chipmaker recently held talks with potential buyers, though it's added a deal "is not considered imminent." PMC has been under pressure from activist firm Relational Investors to consider "strategic alternatives."
