- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 8:18 AM Officials from Israel's Government Companies Authority plan to meet with Potash Corp (POT) execs next week to discuss the Canadian company's bid to acquire Israel Chemicals (ISCHY.PK). Officials want more details about Potash's plans and how it would secure the country's interests before deciding on whether to approve the bid. Comment! [M&A, Commodities]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 2:44 PM The Q4 potash market will lag due to delayed contracts in India and China into 2013, which has led Potash (POT) to an inventory shutdown, but North American demand remains normal despite worries that farmers would use less potash due to early harvest and drought, Dundee Capital's Carolyn Dennis says. Overall potash demand growth will exceed 3% in the coming years, she says. 2 Comments [Commodities, Global & FX]
- Sunday, November 4, 2012, 2:31 AM Israel's government would consider Potash Corp's (POT) attempt to acquire Israel Chemicals (ISCHY.PK) once the Canadian company makes a formal request, the finance ministry said late yesterday. The comments came just a couple of days after the ministry said it's not considering the deal due to "professional reservation." Comment! [M&A, Commodities]
- Friday, November 2, 2012, 4:16 AM Israel's Ministry of Finance yesterday said it's not considering Potash Corp's (POT) attempt to acquire Israel Chemicals (ISCHY.PK), which is worth around $16B, due to "professional reservation." The ministry's comments came days after it was reported that PM Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed staff to examine the issue. Israel's due to hold an election in January, so don't expect a decision before then. Comment! [Top Stories, Commodities]
- Thursday, November 1, 2012, 12:15 PM Potash's (POT) proposed purchase of Israel Chemicals would give it control of ~25% of global potash production capacity, a "transformative transaction that would vault them past the Russians into the No. 1 spot globally" - which could prompt antitrust concerns. PM Netanyahu also risks being criticized during upcoming elections for selling Israel’s natural resources and jeopardizing the Dead Sea’s ecology. Comment! [Commodities, Global & FX, M&A]
- Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 6:03 AM More on Potash Corp (POT) / Israel Chemicals (ICL) talks: Potash has wanted to increase its stake in Israel Chemicals, which has a market cap of $15B, for a while but has met government and regulatory opposition. Any deal would include ICL's shareholders receiving stock in Potash, the Calcalist newspaper reports. Comment! [Commodities, M&A]
- Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 4:49 AM Potash Corp (POT) has been in talks with the Israeli government, including holding a meeting with PM Benjamin Netanyahu, about acquiring Israel Chemicals (ISCHY.PK). Potash Corp already holds a 13.84% stake in Israel Chemicals, while Israel Corp. holds 52.3%. (previous) Comment! [Commodities, M&A]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 7:09 AM More on Potash (POT) Q3 earnings: FY2012 EPS guidance lowered to $2.40-$2.60, thanks to lower than expected sales to China and India. Potash sales of 2.1M tons, off from 2.2M a year ago. Average price of $429/ton, off 5% from a year ago. Phosphate sales of 900K tons, off from 1.1M a year ago. Average price of $537/ton, off 12.1% from a year ago. Shares -1.7% premarket. (PR) 1 Comment [Commodities, Earnings, On the Move, Global & FX]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 6:06 AM Potash (POT): Q3 EPS of $0.74 misses by $0.04. Revenue of $2.14B beats by $90M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]

- Thursday, October 18, 2012, 3:02 PM Potash (POT -1.9%) is downgraded to Sector Perform with a $48 price target by RBC after its profit warning yesterday, citing challenging potash fundamentals. RBC thinks 2013 will be a challenging year for POT, given its "outlook for softening potash prices and the risk that the company may need to reduce production." Comment! [Commodities, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 17, 2012, 8:08 AM Potash (POT) -2.2% premarket after cutting its FY2012 EPS guidance to the low end of its projected $2.80-$3.20 range, and seeing Q3 at the low end of its prior $0.70-$0.90 range (analyst consensus $0.83). The change primarily reflects lower than forecast potash sales volumes due to delays in new contracts with buyers in China and India. Also: MOS -1.6%. Comment! [Commodities, On the Move]
- Thursday, October 11, 2012, 11:51 AM CF Industries (CF +2.7%) and other fertilizer stocks rally after the U.S. government says corn inventories will fall even more than expected following the Midwest drought; global inventories will hit 117M metric tons as of Oct. 1, down from an estimate of 124M last month. "This report signals there is absolutely no supply cushion," a trader says. Also: MOS +2.1%, POT +2%, AGU +1.6%. Comment! [Commodities, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 10:54 AM Lazard Capital downgrades Mosaic (MOS -1.3%) and Potash (POT -2%) to Neutral from Buy, warning investors not to consider yesterday's dip in MOS a buying opportunity. The firm expects potash prices to drift lower despite strong crop fundamentals which will support fertilizer demand, and doesn't see any catalyst that would lead to meaningful stock price gains. Comment! [Commodities, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Tuesday, October 2, 2012, 11:13 AM Ag stocks are sinking after Mosaic's (MOS -4.6%) weaker than expected results and conference call comments that fertilizer prices haven't risen in tandem with grain prices due to a weaker macro environment and greater supply uncertainty. Potash shipments are expected to decline in 2012 vs. 2011 before rebounding in 2013. POT -2.9%, CF -1.7%, AGU -0.4%. Comment! [Commodities, On the Move]

Market Maven: actually, initiated a small starter short position 1/4 of desired position on CF at 171.50. move had been too strong too quickly IMHO. -
EliteYoda: I agree, I think too many are focusing on the nitrogen strength when there is even more forward pricing strength in Potash this year.
