- Wednesday, June 5, 10:46 AM "Those who can demonstrate that their glue has something different to offer … will achieve good margins," a consultant tells Bloomberg, regarding the growing appeal of specialty adhesives amid automakers' push to create lighter, stronger cars. The average amount of such adhesives used in cars could grow by a third going forward, boosting the prospects for companies like Henkel (HENKF.PK +0.2%), PPG -1%, and Atlas Copco (ATLKY.PK -2.4%). Comment!
- Wednesday, May 8, 1:19 PM Shares of Axiall (AXLL -16.2%) plummet after earnings miss estimates by a wide margin. The acquisition of PPG's chlorine assets was largely responsible for an $88.6M increase in adjusted EBITDA from Q1 2012 in the Chlorovinyls segment (which accounts for most of the firm's sales), but relatively high ethylene costs and lower resin sales prices conspired to offset the gains. Meanwhile, net sales decreased in both the Building Products and Aromatics segments. (PR) Comment! [On the Move, Earnings]
- Thursday, April 18, 2:46 PM PPG Industries (PPG +5.9%) moves up today, despite posting a mixed Q1 report earlier that missed slightly on revenue but beat on a per share basis. Net earnings surged after the paint-and-coatings supplier recorded a $2.2B sale of its chemicals business to Georgia Gulf Corp. Sales in its industrial-coatings unit were up 10%, boosted by higher volume and some smaller acquisitions. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 18, 8:18 AM PPG Industries (PPG): Q1 EPS of $1.58 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $3.3B misses by $0.15B. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News]

- Thursday, April 11, 9:34 AM PPG +1% buys Deft Inc., a provider of aviation primers and topcoats, in deal that will broaden PPG's portfolio and ensure it maintains its market position as a "leading aerospace coatings supplier," the company says. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Comment! [M&A]
- Friday, March 15, 7:34 PM If history is a guide, the markets may be due for a pullback, according to S&P Capital's Sam Stovall. Since World War II, Stovall says the median advance once the S&P hits its previous high after recovering from a bear market has been just 3%. But despite the ominous warning, there still may be some places to ride it all out. JPMorgan's chief U.S. equities strategist Tom Lee recently came up with 15 stocks that outperformed the S&P 500 in eight of the last 11 pullbacks since 2009: CAG, IBM, DIS, GPC, MMM, FISV, PAYX, PPG, SYY, SIAL, UNP, UTX, PX, L, and XRAY. 28 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Friday, March 15, 11:19 AM J.P. Morgan's Thomas Lee sees two distinctive style attributes that will help stocks outperform after the recent run-up: high free cash flow yields and - surprisingly - low dividend yields. Lee's screen produces 15 stocks investors can buy now: CAG, IBM, GPC, MMM, PAYX, UTX, SYY, PPG, PX, UNP, FISV, SIAL, XRAY, L, DIS. 6 Comments [Quick Ideas]
- Monday, January 28, 10:20 AM PPG Industries (PPG -3.1%) sets a final exchange ratio for the split-off of its commodity chemicals business at 3.2562 shares of newly created Eagle Spinco for each PPG share. After PPG's acceptance, Eagle Spinco will merge with a subsidiary of Georgia Gulf (GGC +4.8%) and each Spinco share will convert to one GGC share; the closing of the merger then should conclude later today. Comment! [Commodities, M&A, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 17, 11:47 AM PPG Industries, Inc. (PPG) declares $0.59/share quarterly dividend, in line with previous. Forward yield 1.68%. For shareholders of record Feb. 22. Payable Mar. 12. Ex-div date Feb. 20. (PR) Comment! [Dividends]
- Monday, January 14, 9:09 AM PPG says it is in discussions with Essilor about the future of their Transitions Optical JV; PPG owns 51% in the venture. PPG says the discussions could lead to a change in the structure of the JV, a sale of its interests in the entity to Essilor, or a sale of Essilor's interests to PPG. (earnings) Comment! [Commodities]
- Monday, January 14, 8:12 AM PPG Industries, Inc. (PPG): Q4 EPS of $1.53 in-line. Revenue of $3.6B in-line. Shares -1.5% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, On the Move]

- Friday, January 11, 8:26 AM Georgia Gulf (GGC) +1.2% premarket as shareholders approve the issuance of shares necessary to complete the pending merger with PPG's commodity chemicals business. Jim Cramer gives his blessing: While GGC is more economically sensitive than PPG because its chemicals are not proprietary, he thinks there's enough demand for its products to move the stock higher. Comment! [Commodities, M&A, Quick Ideas]
