Service revenue rose 27% to $422.1M, with newly-acquired Liquent contributing $400K in the quarter. Backlog at the end of December was approximately $4.54B, up 21.4% Y/Y. It also raises FY guidance, now expecting to earn $1.48 to $1.56 per share, with consolidated service revenue between $1.695B and $1.710B. Shares +3.4% AH.

Synergy Pharmaceuticals (SGYP +5.3%) moves up after saying its commenced Phase IIb clinical trials of plecanatide, a treatment for patients with constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. The trial is being conducted at 70 sites in the U.S. and includes 350 patients. Parexel International (PRXL -2%) is the contract research organization for the trial.

Parexel (PRXL +2.1%) acquires Liquent for $72M. The shares rose after the firm raised 2Q13 revenue guidance to $415M-$420M, GAAP EPS to be in range of $0.31-$0.34 and FY13 revenue of $1.67B-$1.69B and adj. EPS to be in range of $1.36-$1.43. More on Parexel (PRXL) FQ1 EPS comes in-line but its top-line beats on a 25% jump in Y/Y revenue. For the current quarter, the company expects to report service revenue in the range of $400M to $410M and an EPS in the range of $0.31 to $0.33. For FY13, service revenue is expected to be in the range of $1.63B to $1.66B on earnings between $1.34 to $1.44.

Parexel (PRXL) announces an Accelerated Share Repurchase agreement with JPMorgan to repurchase an aggregate of $50M of the company's common stock. The purchase is part of its existing $200M share repurchase program announced in August, and will conducted as part of a 10b5-1 trading plan that allows JPMorgan to make purchases on the company's behalf.
