Prudential PLC (PUK) confirms it has sold its Taiwan agency to China Life (LFC), after receiving regulatory approval this week. As part of the deal, PRU will take a 10% stake in LFC. The sale frees up £800M in cash for Prudential. PUK +4.4% premarket. LFC +2.5% in Shanghai.

Several major bidders for AIG's (AIG) $20B Asian life insurance unit have dropped out as the economy worsens, leaving just three suitors and not one formal bid. The trio: Prudential (PUK), Manulife Financial (MFC) and Temasek. Final bids due Friday.
